I haven't heard of this but I used to live in Adelaide. Interesting...there's more to this than meets the eye I'd say.

Abbreviated version of this morning's conversation.
JW: [handing over paper flyer] We are just inviting people to a meeting tomorrow night, where we will answer that question on the front. X: Aren't you the people who are are involved in biblical prophecy? JW: Yes. X: Doesn't Micah 5:1-5 prophesy the coming of the Messiah? JW [looking up Micah] Yes. [finds the passage] X: What about verse 6? When will that happen? [JW reads] X: When is Jesus returning with seven shepherds and eight principal men to lay waste to Assyria with the sword? Why would he bother? JW: [JW2 in background suppresses slight mirth. JW1 changes subject] Using Finkelstein and Ehrman as sources, I pointed out that the Jews considered the Pentateuch a fabrication historically, that the gospels were written after the fact by non-eyewitnesses and the gospel writers had four versions of terrible events (I detailed them) on the death of christ, not one of which events was recorded by anyone else. I submitted that The Iliad, for which they found Troy, was a more reliable record. The dropped quickly into faith alone. I said I did not do that. JW2 said that important things were coming. I said "coffee, I need to make it" and we parted cordially.

I bow to your (a) knowledge (b) ability to keep calm in the face of stupidity (c) your sense of humour
As an ex JW with lots of axes to grind with them I would (a) go blank with rage (b) lose the plot (c) seriously undermine myself - in their eyes - by belittling the Watch Tower Society in as sarcastic a manner as possible thereby losing all chance of gaining a listening ear so....better you talked to them than me

Haven`t read all the thread but so far I`ve seen no mention of the child abuse scandals rocking the WT around the world, including Australia. Figures like 25,000 incidents worldwide have been proposed, many hidden from police until the victims come forward. Lots of expensive compensation paid to some abused. http://www.surfcanyon.com/search?f=sl&q=Silent%20Lambs&partner=wtiffeua has been a leading light in exposing the corruption within the sect.

Hi roscoe
This is a message sent to all who find their way to these forums. We like people, and we like facts too! We're friendly but we're skeptical, and if somebody calls for proof, it's not an accusation. Only the strong ideas thrive here: we try to respect people. (We do not tolerate personal abuse.) You may already have visited these other handy places: * New Member Information * Welcome from AFA president * For those interested in learning, I recommend the Atheism Resource Thread maintained by Fearless. * And a quick look at our reserved spot for belief-based discussion, Fantasy Island, includes The Great Big List, a sort-of "things we've seen before" for those of faith, and general rules of argument for the forum. If you've got questions, please ask. Moderators have red name tags, but many of our friendly people may have the answers you need. Enjoy the forums. We hope to see plenty from you in discussions. Have fun.

Hi roscoe, welcome to the forum. It would've been nice for you to stay around to discuss the matters raised in your post. That tends to dispel any potential accusations of link-dropping, y'see.
![]() You may have noticed from the links in your Welcome Post above, that we're rather big on people evidencing their claims and providing context and explanations for them, here. Would you care to do so?

Hi, Logic, just received notice of my membership so, no, I`m not dodging any challenge. The link to Silent Lambs contains a large number of references to newspapers running details of trials across at least three continents. Where would you like to start? Australia?
