Default I miss "prayer" today

I have been involved in a shitstorm over the weekend. Long, involved, accusatory ranting emails by a family member who is clearly bat-shit crazy. Vitriolic rants on my sexual history, snide and smug comments on the state of my marriage. Crazy rantings from a drug-fucked lunatic.

And yet, all I want to do is wrap myself up in the comfort of pagan ritual, and use the wibbly-wobbliest of woo to protect myself from this maniac. Bind him back to himself, or "pull down" a fucking happy pink aura out of a Unicorn's arse or something.

I won't do it. Even when I was actively pagan I knew it was bullshit, but there is a deep sense of peace that pagan rituals offered me, that I sorely need today.

**sigh**

Why can't you have the ritual?

You can have any damned comforting ritual you like, it doesn't have to be about woo. My favourite rituals involve a glass of baileys and a cigar on a sunlounger under the stars (at least until I quit smoking).. A glass of wine and a plate of fruit in a bubblebath with an audiobook playing (a favourite is Patrick Stewart reading 'A christmas carol').. Playing some Cherry Poppin Daddy loud while I clean my fridge. .. etc etc

Gotta say though.. there's nothing that makes me feel better about someone pejoratively analysing my sexual history or practices (you know, that stuff's bad because it's not good), than practicing some more. It can be just as holy and divine as anything the wooble crowd can think up. Hell, I swear there have been times a choir of angels have flown down and perched on my bedhead and sung the Hallelujah Chorus.

+1 to Lilith.

Nothing wrong with the ritual acting out of the imagining* of a unicorn dumping rainbow crap on your email hater.

*yes I know this is an example of terrible English.

You don't need people like this in your life. Put their email and phone number on block; remove them completely. If other family members question your motives, then you can tell them exactly why.

Aww, just having a pity-party over here.

A bran' spankin' pair of Mossimo pumps, a couple of gin and tonix at the Yacht Club, watching the boats pootle in and out, the hawks wheeling overhead. The sound of waves lappin' at the shore, and I am back to my old self.

and yes, Brother O'Mine now on block. So much for open dialogue **eyeroll** about his choice to send his only child, my only niece, to a school that doesn't offer Biol, as it's against the Babble. (It's a Xtian Science school)

See? Feelgood Ritual worked! ... like magic.

Glad you feel better.. Religious crud is frustrating at the best of times - when it's directly effecting someone you love it's heartbreaking. .. Make good and sure that birthday pressies make up for it in some small way (Chemistry sets.. telescopes.. choice books.. )

I been thinking on this quite a bit. Wondering why my initial reation was to reach for my athame and fall back into superstition and woo. Especially when I am fully aware that it is only just that.

I have come to the conclusion that the pretense of having a higher power look after you/advocated for you/protect you is habitual. And, like any other addiction that props up your 'reality" and gives you a percieved buffer, it's hard to give up. Heroin, Jeebus or The Goddess, they're all ways of making your personal reality more palpable, aren't they?

Don't change the fact at El Bro is a manipulative tool. And I made the choice to engage in HIS particular psychotic reality, and I can just as easily choose to ignore him, and put on some Foos.

Off in a mo to wield a tungsten Victorinox athame on some pork belly, call down some sea salt and ask the powers of Garlic, Ginger, Soy and Star Anise to transubstantiate for me.
