Anonymous take on the Vatican

Just saw this but I don't have time to comment sorry.

THE hacking group Anonymous has taken down several Vatican websites, saying it was targeting the "corrupt" Catholic Church.

"Anonymous decided today to besiege your site in response to the doctrine, to the liturgies, to the absurd and anachronistic concepts that your for-profit organisation spreads around the world," the hackers said in a statement.

Heard the end of a news story last night saying 3 of the heads of anonymous had been caught and charged with either terrorist acts or treason. Anyone else get the whole story?

I thought it was more the lulzsec group. One or more might have been connected though.

Could be, I only caught the end of it and got catch up from hubby. They were charged over hacking the credit card sites that refused to process payment to wiikileaks a while ago.

A bit of a cold war situation. I assume groups like anonymous could unleash a world of digital pain if they really wanted to, but prefer to just let people know they are there when they feel they need to, whilst reminding us what they are capable of.

Then you have the authorities and agencies who could probably swoop on many more of them than they have, but in doing so may create more of a problem for themselves (and others), instead targeting fringe groups who they can possibly take down with less risk or agro.

Issue lies with this particular situation (and I have read it several times today) that religious commentary (not just catholic) are using this to perpetuate the rhetoric of evil doing against its institutions.
