To add to that, there are a number of cafes and coffee shops and buses, etc. that now provide (often free) WiFi as well. Of course one should be a little careful as it is often open, so no encryption. So where possible HTTPS where you can.

Thank you. Thats the way I'm leaning because of the short expiry of the monthlys.

Protes: do those deals often have some data rate restrictions? (eg. shaping down, cutting off or being charged per megabytes for example)

I'm considering such a thing now because I tend to ride quite a lot and might prove to be helpful when I stop. Though nothing big (probably only ever use up a few hundred meg on the go - not like I download GB's of movies while I'm at it)

And provided that you don't use more that 1GB/month, which in my experience is more than enough, it'll end up costing you less per MB.

I'll third the 12G/12 month one. Mostly I use Wireless, and noticed in my phone that 200MB/month was ample data for the extent I needed 3G on it. Even using more in the iPad, I am finding I have ample data.

@Croc: there is no shaping or speed restriction. You have the data or you do not. If you refill before the expiry point then existing spare data rolls over, otherwise not.
