Default Moderating Social Groups

There's a new member of the Hunter Valley Heretics social group that has posted an introductory message in the group, and as moderator, I've been trying to approve it so it's visible to everyone else in the group.

From the list of threads in the group, I'm selecting his thread by ticking the box at the far right, choosing "Approve Discussions" from the Moderation box below the threads, then clicking the "Go" button, but it's returning an error message of "You did not select any valid messages."

I've also tried opening the thread, and selecting the message in there to approve it. No satisfaction there, either.

This is the first time that someone other than me has started a discussion in the social group.

I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Am using Opera 9.64. Don't usually have any probs whatsoever with AFA forums. Tried changing site preferences to mimic both Firefox and IE, but still no go.

Any assistance would be appreciated !

Gary

I just tried replying to his post, and then approving. Still no luck..

Nope, it's an assumption. It's been a while since it was last used, obviously, so my memory of how things worked is a little shaky. I recall having to approve other people's posts in the individual threads. They appear shaded yellow to me until approved..

OK, well now I'm confused.

To join the group, one has to be invited. I invited Eardstapper. He posts. You're suggesting that I have to somehow "approve" a person I invited ? His joining was obviously successful, as he wouldn't have been able to post anything otherwise.

If the yellow shading doesn't represent posts awaiting approval, then I'm not sure why they're yellow. Incidentally, my response to Eardstapper remains yellow as well, and I'm the founder of the group ! Do I need to approve myself ?

The moderator's box allows me to approve discussions (which doesn't appear to be working). It doesn't allow me to approve members.

Just checked the group. Through no action of mine, the thread and my reply in the thread are no longer shaded yellow.

Gotta go.. meeting on this evening. Back later.

Any idea what happened Protes ?

I asked gruber to check out the group, to see if I could confirm if he could see Eardstapper's post or not. I notice he posted his own comment in the thread, so he must have been able to see it, but I'm wondering if that's because you moderated the thread yourself ?

I don't want or have a need to moderate the group for any particular reason (I'll do it if it's necessary, of course), but I recall there may have been no choice if one wanted the group to be invite only.. something that is preferable (privacy away from the prying eyes of the wider public). We certainly don't want to trouble you main forum mods to baby-sit us.. you've got enough on your plates already.

Righto.. if it's causing the same prob for the admin, then yeah, it's probably a bug. Bugger !

Thanks for looking into it.

The group might try and organise another get-together soon, so it may get a bit more use over the next few months (either that, or we'll use the newly established social sub-forum). We'll see..
