Rant about the standard of spelling!!

If I can understand what someone is writing I don't care too much about correct spelling, grammar and puntuation. It's easier to read and interpret standard use, but I won't pick on someone's misuse of apostrophes or inability to spell atheist unless they invoke Skitt's law by picking on my own sine waving ability to write coherently.

I was so disappointed after 1984 came and went and the dictionary just kept getting bigger. SO many words to try and spell!!

A common spelling helps with meaning or understanding but language does not develop very logically. English is such a bastard language, with many fathers. It is constantly evolving, although I understand the anxiety that some folks have about this mutation and evolution. Nevertheless, revolution now and then is sometimes a good thing. We are being heretics whenever we do not capitalize god.

My personal rant is when people spell Earth as "earth". Earth is a specific planet, and therefore its name is a proper noun. "earth" is just soil. I suppose I should not capitalize "cod" either, but that is pure sarcasm. cod is too generic to be capitalised.

I get annoyed with folks who get all pissy about "s" and "z". So long as phenotype is preserved, I don't give a fuck about genotype.

HA! I often intentionally use lower case for names and proper nouns as a personal “dis” but considering all my other genuine errors no one really notices.

Errr, well said I think. :-)

I am not a spelling nazi as many people haven't had the privilege of 'spelling' education. Spelling is a complicated thing to learn and despite many people believing a good reader equates to a good speller, it is not the case. Some very intelligent people simply can't spell because they are wired differently.
ESL people can also be forgiven, in my view. :-)
