OK, I have had enough of trying to work with my Inspiron 530 desktop in the small factor casing after what I think is just dust mucking up my Ram, and looking at having to pull things apart I am wondering whether I take this chance to upgrade.
The Inspiron has a core 2 duo processor and g33m02 motherboard, with 4gig ram (DDR2 SDRAM at 800 MHz) I have hacked the standard Inspiron and have added better graphics, which meant a PSU upgrade : 1 x FSP Epsilon 80 plus 700 Watt Power Supply, Intel & AMD Compatible, Support SLI & CrossFire, Low Noise, Ture Power (Epsilon-80plus-700w) 1 x ASUS Radeon HD 4890, 1024MB 256-bit GDDR5, 850MHz GPU, 975MHz Memory, PCI-E 2.0 x16, DX10.1, Dual DVI, HDMI, HDCP, CrossFireX Ready (EAH4890/HTDI/1GD5) I really had to squeeze the graphic card in there (all 12 inches baby) and the PSU octopus that it is swarms the inside of the case, making it impossible to do much without taking the whole thing apart (hence I haven't got around to trying to clean out the RAM slots yet of dust) What I was thinking of purchasing, and hacking together with my hard drives from the old machine (and hopefully just booting up, possibly having to ask M$ nicely for an updated licence for the change in hardware) was : Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler $108.00 Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7-B3 Motherboard $379.00 Lian Li 140mm Blue LED Fan CF-1412A $17.20 CoolerMaster MegaFlow 200 Blue $35.00 G.Skill Ripjaws F3-12800CL8D-4GBRM (2x2GB) DDR3 $85.00 Intel Core i5 2500K $269.00 CoolerMaster HAF 922 Case $135.00Well I am not a hardware geek, I can get something together but not sure if I am really overlooking anything that others may have a clue on in the hardware department. I have heard 'Bulldozer' is coming out soon in the second quarter .. is this worth waiting for? Have I messed up in any of my hardware choice? Should I, could I (for gaming that is, the linux stuff doesn't worry me)... considering I have gigs and gigs of steam games installed, get one of (??? I have no idea) these? : http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...&cPath=375_974 Or do you reckon I will have no problem throwing in my windows partitions and taking off (with maybe just a support call to M$ to get them to authenticate the change of hardware on my current windows license?) * * No, I do not want an illegal copy of windows, I may hate it, but when I need something in software I pay for it, or else don't use it. Cheaper than a playstation is all I care about.
