Default Hi All

I am a 29 year old computer IT Contractor from the Gold Coast. I can't recall a time I believed in the Great Spaghetti Monster in the sky as I was lucky to be brought up in a non-religious household. I do have a Grandma that is deeply religious and when we visited her when I was young Church was always on the cards. Now I am old enough to just say no to being bored. I still haven't got to the point where I would "come out" to her though which is a bit sad.

I have always found religious people baffling as I have a number of friends that in other aspects of life are logical and intelligent all the while believing in an imaginary friend. In true Australian fashion I have been rather apathetic regarding religion and Atheism however over the last few years I have become increasingly concerned about the impact of organised religion on society. I have therefore started educating myself further and looking for ways I can make a difference. In particular I am concerned with the amount of influence religion has in our Government.

Hello Pusbum

We like people, and we like facts too!

We're friendly but we're skeptical, and if somebody calls for proof, it's not an accusation. Only the strong ideas thrive here: we try to respect people. (We do not tolerate personal abuse.)

If you're an AFA member and need your membership status recognised in forum access, please send a Private Message to Admin, including the name on your AFA membership.

You may already have visited these other handy places:

* Welcome from AFA president
* For those interested in learning, I recommend the Atheism Resource Thread maintained by Fearless.
* And a quick look at our reserved spot for belief-based discussion, Fantasy Island, includes Wolty's List, a sort-of "things we've seen before" for those of faith.

If you've got questions, please ask. Moderators have red name tags, but many of our friendly people may have the answers you need.

Enjoy the forums. We hope to see plenty from you in discussions.

Have fun.

Damn, as if I don't get enough of that sort of thing in my work (PS: Rectogesic, Anusol, and sitz baths all work a treat and of course there's always surgery )

Welcome PB Hope you enjoy it here.

I believe more and more Australians are shaking off their apathy regarding religion, as you have done, and that's all to the good.

Lots to see and do here! You might like to take a look at the latest AFA press release which answers that hilarious japester, George Pell, after he claims that atheists are "coarse and fearful of the future", amongst other gems.

Or you might like to get involved in the ethics classes discussion.

Or you might like to peruse the funny pics and YouTube threads, which are loads of fun.

Enjoy!

And it's hello from me too.

I am always glad when I hear one more has finally decided enough is enough. People are free to have their religion, but let's not let them force their superstitions on the remainder of the population.

If you're concerned about the religion influence in government, then you mist want to look at the National Schools Chaplaincy Program.
