I would just like to say up yours microsoft and internet explorer, I have had enough
. OK so I FINALLY made the all important drastic decision of changing browsers from IE to Mozilla Firefox. After years of abuse from IE I decided enough is enough and have now stuck with Mozilla, the amount of crap IE does, the crashes, the freezes, video stuff-ups, download cut-offs, the mental anguish, the latenight crying and the punches to the groin have finally taken it's toll. The ONLY reason I stayed with IE for so long was simply out of familiarity and laziness but lately I have had to keep switching to mozilla because of the latest IE updates which has prevented me from watching videos online in full screen and almost every website I go to takes far too long to load, more than usual. Yeah fantastic update wasn't it? And so it had gotten to the point where I was simply using it more and more until it became used more than IE. I always knew mozilla was a better browser, but as I said, I was just used to IE too much and didn't like certain visual aspects of Mozilla. So I welcome mozilla in my arms and have kicked IE out of the house for good.pointless post over

I use all of them semi-equally...
Firefox uses too much resources on my old laptop - and completely annihilates my battery charge. Chrome is quick and dirty - no resources needed, fast and basic. Opera is feature packed, heavy on the resources but allows for some "fun" stuff - very similiar to Firefox. and IE is perfect for when I am on battery - no (noticable/different) usage, resource usage good - and runs smoothly. I've had most problems on Firefox - but mostly due to Flash conflicts, Add-on "features" that clash - like Adblock blocking legitimate content, and No-Script completely annoying the hell out of me to the point I uninstalled it. If anything, I've found that I can use IE because I know the website will work. I don't have to worry about anything. It's not pretty - and has no features like Firefox, but its safe and quick. But then again I need them all to develop things aswell. I guess my advice is don't get rid of the habit / forget about IE... It's good when Firefox will, and yes it will, frustrate you. Or you might have a newer computer than me and never need to go back! |

the only thing that stops me moving totally to chrome is the firefox addons, and chrome to search a page you can't just click / and the find box comes up, you have to do CTRL-F which is annoying at speed. habit I suppose.
Since I do a lot of web dev, the plugins for firefox for analysing javascript, http headers, editing live of css for mucking about etc etc are too handy to give up. I do use chrome tho on windows more now, simply as I don't develop on windows, just use it as both a testing machine, and more importantly a game machine. One note, the testing above is done on an older version of firefox, 3.6 had speed improvements across the board, startup, rendering and cpu usage etc ..the other stuff included in the chrome and firefox browsers are a lot of HTML5 stuff IE just doesn't have, like ability for web developers to indicate that scripts should run asynchronously, which can massively improve such things as load times etc IE is just so behind the current market

Have been an Opera user for about 10 years now. It has always done everything I need it to... much more, if I'm honest. And it's done it all superbly. There are features I porbably should be using, but aren't (eg voice control/activation, mouse gestures). I've added them to the list of all the other things I should be doing...
![]() Whilst I really do appreciate the idealism behind the value of minimising software bloat by utilising features via add-ons/plugins (a-la Firefox), in the real world, I can accept a couple of features that I don't use in my browser (email client, torrent client.. I use different standalone programs for these purposes) for the privelige of using bloody good software. The thing that's always irked me (and here's where I reckon I'm gonna get into trubble with a.. wait for it.. an unsubstantiated claim) .. is that so many of Opera's features have been stolen by rival browser developers. So often, Opera has had a particular feature first. I saw a brilliant run-down of a bunch of browsers on a site once (perhaps a couple of years ago, with similar tests but much more comprehensive detail to that offered in the pic above, including multiple pages of proofs of instances where competitors had stolen browser features).. just after the release of Chrome, methinks... but do U think that I can find it again ? This is particularly embarrassing, not only because I'm saying this to a bunch of people reknowned for demanding evidence (and rightly so !) , but also because I'm an obsessive compulsive website "bookmarker"...Congrats on moving away from IE, anyway... smart move. If I may be as bold as to make my own comparisons:
IE: The old rusty Ford/Holden parked out the back... Not pretty, it "just works", but you know it's there. Opera: Chrysler C Class... Big, bulky, sexy as hell and lined with features. "Different", but grossly inefficient. Safari: Toyota Prius... Efficient, Stylish in that alternative sort of way. No features but runs smoothly - most of the time. Struggles with speed at the higher end. Firefox: Lexus... All class, sexy as hell. Completely opposite of IE. Packed full of features, with the engineering to match. A little bulky for some systems. Chrome: Mini Cooper Convertible... Small, compact, basic but sexy in a minimilistic kind of way. Runs very smoothly and is extremely efficient. Can not reach the acceleration or power of a Lexus, but gets 28 miles to the gallon. Was that any accurate? It was fun to make regardless :P |
