The Atheist worldview? Now there's a laughable concept. Get two atheists into a world and you'll get five conceptions of reality. And it's good like that, it's healthy. Nothing worse than getting a million believers into the room, them all having one world view, and it being horribly horribly wrong!

Kieran Interesting statement I think you just declared Atheism a religion.
You stated that everyone else was very very wrong......without evidence.
I think you will find that it's not possible to sway an atheist even if the evidence is overwhelming....... actually that's been proven.
The evidence proving that Jesus Christ died and was resurrected 3 days later is classed as historical fact when judged by the common tests placed on ancient history.
If we don't accept that then we can't accept any writings on any historical figures.
Atheism is a religion because they accept things that are not proven.
Evolution theories are at the head of these issues.
I don't know how much you know about the subject but the holes in the theories of evolution are so large you have to study it with your eyes (and mind shut) to have any chance of accepting them.
I did study it as a career and proved to myself that it was impossible and their was no real evidence to study.
Left me with a lot of problems and still few answers

No he didn't. We don't believe in the supernatural, it's rather a defining characteristic of religion, that little bit there.

You stated that everyone else was very very wrong......without evidence.

They are. You are. Wrong wrong wrong. And.... wrong some more. And there is so much evidence for YOUR wrongness that it makes you look laughably contemptible to those of us who can see it.

I think you will find that it's not possible to sway an atheist even if the
evidence is overwhelming....... actually that's been proven.

That would be because we're right and you aren't.

The evidence proving that Jesus Christ died and was resurrected 3 days
later is classed as historical fact when judged by the common tests placed on ancient history.

Oh do please site your references. Something scientific? Something not disproven 38 different ways from... Sunday.

If we don't accept that then we can't accept any writings on any historical figures.
Refer to above youtube clip. Yeah, because we have actual WRITINGS by historical figures from that time period and before. Not just he said, that he said, that she said, that jebus wasn't there where we put him.

Atheism is a religion because they accept things that are not proven.
Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.

Evolution theories are at the head of these issues.

You've got your nouns mixed. There are things that evolution doesn't yet or cannot explain. But it's the idea of god that closes minds and eyes.

I did study it as a career and proved to myself that it was impossible and their was no real evidence to study. Left me with a lot of problems and still few answers.
Then you didn't do it right. You proved to yourself. Share those results with any of your fellow evolutionists and NOT get laughed out of the room.

You believe in god because you WANT to believe in god. We don't believe in god because we CAN'T believe in something without evidence.

some bold statements there prmorris

Evidence Jesus died and was resurrected? Hmm I'd like to see that. From all the studies I've been doing the jury is still in doubt whether Jesus ever existed in the first place. If he did exist it's highly unlikely that he was actually the son of any god and came back from the dead. There is even some conjecture that if we take what limited evidence is available he would never have actually died in the first place.

Evolution. One has to wonder prmorris how well you studied it and how open your mind was whilst doing those studies. There are countless, I'd hazard to say much more highly educated than you, scientists that accept evolution as a very valid theory.

No, what I actually said was:

This is a very real, practical concern of atheism. We atheists are always told that we have to "respect" people's beliefs. But I think there really is a point at which it is appropriate to scream, from the top of our lungs:

Quote:
DON'T DRINK THE FLAVOUR AID!
The suppression of the critical faculties of the human mind, which is what religion engages in, can be a very real threat to our survival.

prmorris,

Tests on ancient history are not in the same street, galaxy, universe as is scientific method. History is a very subjective appraisal of past events and only supplies anything that can be classed as a fact if there are independent, no partisan cross references.

The New Testament Jesus and the alleged miraculous happening therefore fail the test for authenticity.

However, there is hope for prmorris as there is a new investigation into New Testament times called The Jesus Project http://www.buffalonews.com/cityregio...ry/508858.html

Of course, this project cannot prove the alleged miraculous happenings, as there is zilch evidence to investigate. As for the existence of Jesus the Christ, I would hazard a guess that Atheists will be more likely to accept the results of the investigation than will the prmorriss’ of the world.

Hi there PR Morris,

Man I wasn't sure at which bit to ask you about first ! I chose evolution. What are the holes that you speak about ? I am certainly no scientist but have read a lot on evolution both for and against and I am still unaware of the 'holes" you mentioned. Can you elaborate?

Regards

Godless

Interesting replies here to my post. Most very enlightening.
it was particularly interested in the assumptions jumped too.
At no time did I say anything about my beliefs or even if I had any.
I just talked about evidence and findings.
Some of you have a little work to do on your history and when it comes to science, well an understanding of scientific theory and science fact needs to be considered.
Science fact is a moving target according to the available evidence.
So currently the acceptance of evolution as fact is not sustainable. Its no good saying we haven't found the answers yet.... but we know .....Thats called belief.... and sounds a bit like religion.
By the way I have an open mind, but you'll just have to believe me on that. Of course most of you wont but that doesn't make you right (you don't have all the facts)
