What question is answered by religion?

I invite you, or any goddist, to propose any question to which religion provides answers, not mere assertions or pious hopes, and that answer is coherent, unavailable to science, and would reasonably remain unavailable.

So are you asking, "What question does religion answer"?

I'm not arguing this, but for example I could say

"Christianity provides us with an explanation of the enigma of man. Being that some of us are so concerned with self sacrificial love and the caring for others, while on the opposite end of the scale man is also responsible for damnable evils such as rape,torture etc"

Is that along the lines of what you're asking?

You made a statement there that there is variation in human behaviour. Is this one of the questions you consider better answered by religion?

If so, what is religion's coherent explanation, unavailable to science, of your self-styled enigma of man? What, in fact, is so enigmatic about it?

Hi 4lan,

Obviously this is a theological position, so I would explain it by what scripture says about it.

But before I could do that we all have to accept that;

1. There are good reasons to believe there is a God.
2. Jesus Christ was who he said he was, and the resurrection actually happened.
3. What we have now as the New Testament is historically reliable, and we can know what the original documents said.
4. What the authors wrote is actually true.

So I can explain to you what I believe about the inspiration of scripture, but of course I'd have to assume all the points above first.

What's the explanation that religion provides that is better than one provided by science?

Also, kinda begging the question, because it's not really an enigma at all. Check out a book on biology, or anthropology, or neuroscience....plenty of real-world answers for why people (and other animals) do good and bad things.
