Here are some fine examples of the sort of "debate" that takes place in some corners of the rational community :
This beauty -starting with the thread title:

And this gem: with a nice use of statistics for an extra rational touch on top:

The automatic association of nudity with sexuality is a bit toxic. It's a very male thing. Most nude beaches end up also being gay beats. But the good ones are more mixed, women and men go there, it's a mellow scene, very relaxed, non-voyeristic, just normal levels of sexuality, and there's no unstoppable urge to rape every naked person who wanders past. To assume otherwise is actually really sick in my opinion. What is with people?

I admire your tenacity sir. especially since I encounter it every day. this is from 10min ago, on FB, on the topic of abortion

him: life begins at conception, it's a biological fact
me: what is the definition of life?
him: a distinctive human life with a DNA blueprint. It is not just "a blob of cell", it is really life at its very beginning. At conception, the DNA blueprint is already laid out for life to start building on. It's a simple biological fact. At that point, it just needs to depend on a woman to grow. But we must acknowledge that a woman is the ultimate decider and her decisions with her body is far more important than the rights that the unborn has at that stage
me: does not answer my question. what is the definition of life? You cannot define a term by using it. circular reasoning.
him: does it matter in general? I mean, I thought you're talking about human life. I am focused on human life, the life of other animals/plants don't concern me in this issue
me: OK. what is 'human life'? and how is it different to 'other life'?

    to be continued ...

    Maybe try this one Stubs:

The comments prove the point, in spades, if you can manage to get through them.

    thanks.

I actually was not trying to argue against him since as you can tell by his response I think he is in favour of women's sovereignty over their bodies. I was just trying to make the point to him that despite this, his argumentation is sloppy and we need every supporter to get better at arguing

Damn, that's depressing, given how well I know some of those people.

That's far from the most depressing thread on Ratskep.
