    Default Budget

My favourite part of the Budget 2012-13......

    If you love natural therapies…
No more freebie crystal therapy or flower essences I'm afraid.

The government will crack down on taxpayers' funds being used to subsidise ''natural therapy'' services which do not present clear evidence they are clinically effective.

Services that are will be ineligible for the health insurance rebate include naturopathy, aromatherapy, ear candling, crystal therapy, flower essences, homeopathy, iridology, kinesiology, reiki and rolfing.

Feels like it's just the beginning of the dissolution of woo from taxpayer's pockets.

It's a good start.. it'd be nice if they'd include the other hooey in there too. I'd love to see the chiropractors start closing up shop - it seems like they're on every street corner now.

And how the hell did anything that requires 'magical thinking' to explain, get onto the rebate scheme in the first place? There would be a whole research project into the history of that. Did this rubbish go through parliament and the senate?
I have no requirement for the supernatural or magic to explain anything, finding purpose in life other than trying to enjoy it, fantasies to explain wonder, fear that reason might trivialise me, or demand of wonders greater than those that are evident.

Parliament is primed for it, with a prayer or two to open every session.

I was told that peoples on the Disability pension are getting a bonus, is this true?

Ear candling?? had to duckduckgo that one and could not believe what I saw (http://www.quackwatch.org/01Quackery.../candling.html). Purify the mind, stop tinnitus, clear the eyes, purify the blood (how does sticking a candle in your ear do that?) to name but a few. I've got to give up trying to work out how people believe this crap and start trying to work out how I can make some money out it.

Maybe some sort of sugar pill that contains an insignificant amount of water from some mystical river in Nepal with healing powers - strengthens your aura, builds up your resistance to disease while at the same time reducing your bank balance.

The only trouble is I couldn't keep a straight face if I was trying to sell something like that

Putting some Black Salve on the cancer of medicine, "natural" rubbish, once in for all? Perhaps it will corrode their reputations, if it isn't all mangled up in the first place already.

    A good start I think.

Could we please add Chiropractic to the list?
