    Default hi hi

Hi all. Was suggested to me to introduce myself here so here goes.

My name is Daniel, Im 39, I enjoy quie. . . wait, typing in wrong window. . .

I grew up real poor, in a quite religious family, I remember around 5 years old walking down the street with my brothers and sisters praying to god to let us find money to get some food, and other times thanking god for the food we had and wondering what exactly he had done to provide it.

Growing up I saw a lot of horrible things, people I knew well dead before they were out of their teens from drugs, accidents, suicide. I had to cut my oldest sister down from a tree after a long battle with drugs, depression and abuse. I had to fight with the Anglican church in Adelaide to get my sister buried in a paupers grave because of the way she died.

Not trying to make you feel sorry for me rather to give you an idea of where Im coming from.

I dont believe in god anymore and always was skeptical anyway. Now I believe in a weird sort of scientific buddhism. I dont believe in a soul. I believe we're all made of relatively simple subroutines, biological ones, similiar to each other but modified by experience and dna. I dont believe in evil, I believe some people can be broken at birth and act evily but mostly good and bad are based on situation, learning and opportunity or lack thereof. I believe in reincarnation but only in the sense that mathematically its ceryain in an infinite universe if I exist once I must exist an infinite number of times.

My ideas regarding christians, im married to one. Shes pretty hardcore, it was hard at the beginning but I feel "accept my right to not believe and ill accept urs to believe" is a great way to exist together both in marriage and society in general.

    Welcome to the forum!
[odd]The immenseness of the universe - and Jesus sitting on the outside worried whether a species, that happens to be alive during a blip on the timeline of existence, is masterbating or not. Priceless.
[Goldenmane]To put it another way: I can be charitable without dogma, and if you preach at me as a condition for accepting your help, then you can fuck off.

Welcome to the Forums and thanks for the "official" intro.

Of your "scientific buddhism", where does the latter come in?

    Cheers!

    Hi Daniel,

Welcome and thanks for the intro. You certainly have been in the wars.
Just stick to the idea that science tests falsifiable hypotheses to destruction.

oh i try to practice buddhism without the outside god aspect, which is how i think buddha intended it to be. I believe so far, humans are the closest thing to gods that exist and the clisest things to devils that exist. Following the teachings of buddha makes us closer to gods and further from devils
