Hi,

Is there a setting for increasing the number of forum posts per page?

Yes - just go to the Profile Options (http://atheistfoundation.org.au/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions) and edit the number of posts per page. "Use Forum Default" sets it to 10 posts per page.

Cool. I am glad you asked, because I just learnt something myself. :)

BlueDevil: I often use teh same technique you do. I wait until someone else asks. Makes life a whole lot easier.

I would like the "idle time" to increase. if I spend more than a few moments typing my post, I have to log in again.

DB, you prefer not to stay logged in I take it? Or maybe can't in some cases?

I am not sure if the idle time can be altered (assume it can) but another alternative in the short term at least is to type your (long) replies in notepad or similar to reduce the risk of losing them then copy/paste etc.

I would ask if Mr DBDog has cookies enabled for the AFA site.

Thereby avoiding the task of logging in manually at all if using your normal machine. It's well worth the effort to get it sorted DB.

Make sure you click "Remember Me" before you log in.

The set time out is 30 minutes at the moment but you should automatically log back in.
Ah, that is probably it. Thanks Protium. I can't find the cookie options???

I have another question. When I read all the new posts, and return to the forums main site, the little board next to that section still shows it as "there are posts in here you haven't read". If I go back into that section again, then back out again, it is finally marked as 'no new posts'.

To summarise, I could read all the New Posts until I get the message that says "there are no new posts", and yet when I click on the AFA forums link, there are a bunch of sections still displaying the symbol that indicates I haven't read something in there. Why is that? In the end, I have to double click the little message boards to mark them as read.

I'm not sure I'm making sense even to myself here :( :D

Sounds like you are hitting the back button on your browser instead of re-loading the main page. Going back doesn't refresh the main page.

Edit, could have something to do with cookies as well.

What I do, two browsers, one with who's online and one searching new posts. I try and keep it updated as I go through and refresh new posts as I get a chance.

It could be the cookies thing. I still have the same problem. I always read new posts until I get the message "There are no new posts ect.". Then when I click on the AFA Forums link, I see that all of the sections that originally had new posts still have the yellow-orange tab indicating I have unread posts in them. I don't understand that. I physically have to double click all the icons to get them to grey out.

Do you mean this?

Actually, I mean this:

http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/454e50f2a6.jpg (http://www.freeimagehosting.net/)

When I have read all new posts, and get the message "There are no new threads", I click on the AFA Forums link to find that the upper icon in the above image for sections in which I have read all the posts. Even if I refresh. The only way I can produce the lower icon is to double click the upper one - in other words, I am performing the "double-click to mark as read", even though there aren't any new posts in that section because I have read them all.

Wow, never noticed that before. It seems to be a lag in refreshing. (I have cookies enabled)

I tried it in new members with one unread post. After reading it, it took two goes (into new members and re-clicking afaforums) before it refreshed.

Then I tried it once in ask an atheist and general chit chat and it refreshed straight away. Weird.

I don't use that anyways, just 'New posts'.

I just refreshed 10 times, but no difference. I also have cookies enabled, and the AFA website is included in this. I'm stumped

wolty

Yep, tried it again and it did the same thing (not 10 times though, only the once). Worked straight away in one forum, didn't work straight away in another forum. Must be software related.

Going to check if a refresh works now.

wolty

Heh, refresh doesn't do anything either.

All I can suggest is it is a software glitch with vbulletin or it is somehow continuing to remember your last visit.

Like I said, don't use it. :p

Edit. I did it again. it seems to be a lag.

Edit again. If you double click, it marks the posts as read in that forum.

I know there are bigger problems in the world than me having to constantly double-click icons to mark as read things that are already read.... I guess it would just be nice if it were fixed. Thanks wolty and Protium :)

P.S. If it slows the website down, I don't want it to affect everybody else. In that case, I'm happy to go back to as before.

wolty

I will set it now. If it slows don't blame me :)Wouldn't think of it. We have someone else to blame.

Hey! I oughta report you to the RSPCA.

The scapegoat was traditionally set free. (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/scapegoat)
I'm talking about the ultimate scapegoat (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/jesus?show=0&t=1299291985), who apparently did us a great big solid, even though we didn't ask for it, and if we don't believe in it's purported message, we get to move to a much warmer climate.

:D

wolty

Well it should...

If it's turned on. :p

I know it works.
