Well as per an intro, I'm Davo (wangarattan for Dave)

I used to live in the city (when I was Dave ;) ), but left that for the bush in north east Vic. I work on the net, and the rest of my time do community based projects (mainly online stuff) and enjoy the wildlife and rivers when not 9-5 :)

I've been meaning to join AFA for a while, and finally got around to it .. and just noticed the forums are back online so thought I would sign up here for the chance to get more involved ...

I feel a bit in a juxstaposition, as I just had a snipe at some xtian that emailed me asking me to pray (basically) something about god, and ended up sending them a page or so of diatribe and venting over the whole god issue .. but then again, I am so sick of copping it for saying my own thoughts on issues, yet a lot of people email me all the time with theirs, I thought "Well you opened the door, I'm gonna come in ..'.

It's not like I don't like them, or having a go at them personally ... but they do post stuff to me first, so I reckon it's ok, even still, feeling guilty for 'letting them have it'

What do others think about replying to religious stuff .. online and off? Do you control some of your frustrations, or do you 'let em have it' as I just did in a few page speil :o probably a mix of both .. I usually try and just do the one liners .. but .. heh, coulkdn't help myself this time.

Hi Davo, welcome. The major difference is that their 'pop'aganda comes from a place of love, peace and harmony were us atheist are spiteful, hateful, shit-stirrers. So they think it better you keep your hate in check...God will deal with you later :)

Gudday Davo. I no longer respond to religious emails, I simply delete them. (A long time ago, I used to respond, but found it never did any good, never changed anything, and just lead to frustration and wear-and-tear on my keyboard, and my heart, from the heavy, angry pounding...) But, like Protium, I'm always responding to to the many ridiculous, stupid, uninformed of emails which go around all the time, spread by the ignorant, with links to Snopes.com. Ignorance and stupidity I can take on... But it's my experience there's not much I can personally do for the religiously deluded.

Hi Davo welcome to the Forum! I'm betting you will enjoy having a place you can come to where we won't be asking you to pray for anything, keep an email petition going, ask you to forward something to 15 people for a gift certificate from Bill Gates, or any other bullshit that passes for friendly spam.

We're also delightfully low on fundies, the two we had have all flocked off to be with other sheep. YAY!

Good to have you!

thanks for all the warm welcome :)

Generally most all of my friends are non-religious, so I am kind of lucky. I can have a decent conversation with them on most anything, which is a real bonus when you are trying to solve the worlds problems over a glass of red ;)

I've invited Barack and Michelle over to share a nice red but they say they're little busy at the moment. Raincheck accepted :)

P.S. yes I know Barack is a Christian but thats a given. It will probably be a long time yet before they elect an atheist to office.

I know Barack is a Christian but thats a given. It will probably be a long time yet before they elect an atheist to office.

Even if an athiest (or a closet athiest) was elected, they would soon be conveying what a good christian they are. Its about votes and popularity and there are more theists and agnostics than athiests.

Yes "more theists and agnostics than athiests" - what a sick world.
