Saw Dylan Moran the other night. Quite funny. (as it should be... we enjoyed it... but I think we're used to seeing him in the privacy of our living room, not in a theatre with all those annoying PEOPLE that exist in the outside world)

anywho, he made some lovely atheist comments... He said he speaks to religious types and tolerates them, but he has a problem when they start trying to make HIM see the fairy too. everyone laughed at his witty comments along these lines... but that always worries me - I know statistically most people in the room DO believe in the fairy... so they aren't laughing for the same reasons as me. Maybe they laugh because deep down they realise that the fairy is a ridiculous notion? Is there hope?

Dylan Moran's explanation is that we're all basically children who want someone to look after us and tell us what to do.

Love Dylan Moran...love Black Books...I know, I'm a freak, but it's good to hear more and more comedians speaking out as atheists. Is it a comedian thing? Ricky Gervase, another of my favs, is atheist too.

maybe atheists just have better senses of humour. :)

we did think, even though the general population is quite believing in the fairies, perhaps a dylan moran audience would contain a higher percentage of atheists?

Good point, Ec...
would be interesting to find out...
or maybe it just comes down to having brains that work...you have to have a working brain to be funny I think, to see the absurdities around you, comedians seem to see absurdities in life, so maybe it's a natural progression to see the absurdities in religion too. Comedy is a great way to put something down in a clever fashion.
