WOW!That guy is really creative?

Just imagine what he might accomplish if he used his intellect for something useful, such as saving the planet --or making money.:p

He does okay - he's a doctor in WA (http://www.smh.com.au/news/technology/shock-docs-new-electrifying-party-trick/2009/04/21/1240079644597.html).

A West Australian country doctor who has won a worldwide cult following online for his spectacular displays of electrifying exhibitionism has come up with another feat of high voltage chutzpah.

The project, which Dr Peter Terren calls the Modern Thinker, involves passing about 200,000 volts of electricity over his body, a routine that transforms him into a human sparkler for all of 15 seconds.

The result, captured by a camera set on a long exposure, was posted on Terren's website (http://tesladownunder.com/ModernThinker.htm) last week.

It shows the amateur physicist - striking a pose imitating Rodin's The Thinker statue - channelling an arc of electrical current that leaps down from the crackling semi-circle of sparks suspended over his head.

"It was all quite painless," he said in a telephone interview.

Terren explained in a short note on his website accompanying a new gallery of images that he "wanted to convey the concept of the modern electrical age with the barrage of electrical interference in our lives".

However, the self-confessed media junkie later admitted during the telephone interview that it was just another excuse to "make lots of sparks".

Terren uses a device called a Tesla coil (http://www.theage.com.au/news/technology/my-current-affair-backyard-boffins-shocking-hobby/2008/12/18/1229189769741.html), which transforms a feed of domestic mains electricity into a super-charged bolt of power of up to 500,000 volts.

Through the use of elaborate rigs - including himself - he sets up amazing scenes of electrical theatre which he meticulously records, collates and publishes on his website.

His latest effort, which took two weeks to set up, creates what he calls an "eye of Sauron" effect, a reference to the floating evil eye as portrayed in The Lord Of The Rings movie trilogy.

Terren, who hails from Bunbury south of Perth, said elaborate preparation includes wrapping his torso, arms and legs - Egyptian mummy-like - in builder's insulating foil.

He also donned a tin foil cap - hidden under a $10 black wig - and wore a wire mesh mask. And he stuffed steel wool on to the bottom of his shoe to create a shower of sparks effect from his left foot which was raised just off the ground.

"I don't do it for money, it's just a hobby," he said. "The interest this generates is now the driver."
