Well I'm a bit bored so I'm going to tell anyone who will listen the story of how I got to where I am today. It's been really interesting to read everyone's stories. Makes me feel like I'm not such a weirdo/nerdy/loner lol.
Growing up, religion was something that we didn't talk about. Not that it was awkward or taboo, it just wasn't something that interested my family very much. My mum believes in God, but isn't very religious, and my dad is an atheist. We never went to church or anything, and my friends who were dragged to church by their parents every weekend were so jealous of me haha. I remember learning scripture in primary school, and i enjoyed the stories, but never really believed them.
Skip to high school, the choices in my area were public schools with bad reputations, an all-girls school, or a catholic school. I chose to go to the catholic school, and am glad i did now. I don't remember much of learning religion from yrs 7-10, but in yr 11 and 12, that's when i started paying attention. I had an awesome teacher who was really passionate about what she was teaching. We spent a few weeks at a time learning about each of the main religions. We even spent time on atheism :O My teacher also encouraged critical thinking, we got to crictically analyse the bible, and looked at religion from a philosophical point of view.
I didn't do much for the next few years. Had countless jobs, dodgy boyfriends, couldn't decide what i wanted to do with my life etc. I had always wanted to learn more about, well, the world, but for some reason didn't. Then a few years back something clicked. I don't know what happened but i started reading. When you learn about the ancient egyptian/greek/rome etc mythologies then you can kind of see where the idea for christianity came from :P
Obviously I'm still really interested in reading about religion, but have also started to get into physics, and most importantly now, neuroscience (I'm going to become a neuropsychiatrist :P)
ok thats enough said i think. Peace out!
