I have not had any repect for software companies for many many years now due to their shitty backdoor behaviour.

Adding additional "features" that you never wanted, associating files to their software without notice, that sort of thing.

In recent times Apple really infuriate me with their updater package, they always make sure the little box on Safari is always ticked. This of course is in the hope that someone will not notice it and install it by mistake...fucking arseholes.

On Friday I had a notice pop up to tell me there was a new version of Flash available, went to download it only just in time to notice that a little check box had been ticked to run a McAfee scan on my computer....fucking arseholes. I would not have McAfee on my system at any cost because it a cancerous pile of shit, same goes for Norton.

Now we are not even safe from Google, I went to update Google Earth this morning and went to the website, it never occurred to me that Google would do anything like this.

As I installed the update I noticed it was installing Google Chrome as well. I went back to the website and sure enough there was a little pre-ticked box to install Chrome along with Google Earth....fucking arseholes. I uninstalled it straight away mainly because I was annoyed and rightly so.

You cannot trust anyone these days...fucking arseholes.

Spot on mate. I expect that kind of thing from freeware, but it's competely unaccepatble from commmercial software and multi billion dollar busineses such as Google. They tried that chrome trick on me too. I uninstalled it immediately.

I do not allow any uninvited features (including most cookies) if I can help it,and only buy software if it comes 'included' with some hardware.

I use update facilities only on security software, preferring to check every thing else manually if I feel like it.

I never, under any circumstances, buy software on line.

And people wonder why I am still looking for Windows 2000 :)
Or even waiting for ReactOS to finish to a usable level. :)

I personally try using open-source applications. Particularly ones which use MinGW - Reason being is that if there is some shitty nag screens or whatever, I can just remove and recompile.

I've even come across some proselyware. I know how you feel KeithW - I've seen the lot. Since XP's activation scheme.

As for the update features, I simply block it with my firewall. Especially if the program has nothing to do with the internet (such as a disk defragmenter for example) too.

Google Chrome is awesome though. Easily the best internet browser.

I love Chrome's minimal interface and multiprocess tabs! That's about it. Other than that, you can't select a user style sheet, you can't install it in a multiuser environment so all users can get access to it (you would have to copy the files in the "Default User" directory so that each user gets their own copy, thus wasting space unnecessarily) and you sure as hell can't use it on Windows NT or Windows 2000 either.

I never, under any circumstances, buy software on line.I find it hard recall the last time I bought software any other way. Do you really go to shops to buy boxes and abjure anything not available at your local computer shop, or did you mean something else?

Agree. Software always comes bundled with things you don't need just to get their advertising in your face and take up hard disk space.

Quicktime is crap. I can't belive that iTunes is just Quicktime with an addon. They seem so far removed on the it works to it is crap scale.

Quicktime is crap. I can't belive that iTunes is just Quicktime with an addon. They seem so far removed on the it works to it is crap scale. It must be a bloody big "addon" then. Last time I ever installed iTunes it fucked up my file associations and installed so much junk that I could NOT uninstall, so I just reinstalled the operating system.

That is very Fatty of Matty
