I have seen it at Bunnings.

Himself is building his very own arcarde games cabinet. Everything is going well so far but try as he might, he just can't find a place where he can get hold of some perspex/plexiglass to put in front of the monitor.

We've tried heaps of places, to no avail.

Anyone know where we can get hold of some?

Thanks!

Signmakers! Thank you Mr Black, I shall pass that on to Himself.

That's a very, erm, interesting perspex mop'n'bucket.

How large do you need the plexiglass/perspex? From what I understand you can get 200x200 sheets from Jaycar Electronics

There's red perspex (often the type used for infrared ports for remote controls and RC appliances) and there's this greyish tinted perspex (I think there is clear as well I haven't checked for ages) from memory.

Red would be no good - he's making an upright arcade game so it would need to be clear or a bit smoky (to hide the monitor). Never heard of Jaycar Electronics, perhaps they're not in Vic?

@Mr Black - will pass on your sage advice re drilling as I forsee tears and gnashing of teeth should the cherished piece of perspex, when found, shatter or crack

I will take a pic of the thing and post it later :)

I have seen it at Bunnings.
We've been to probably five Bunnings, three Mitre-10 Mega stores, small hardware stores - you name it! Bunnings have said they don't stock it :(

Tomorrow he'll contact some sign makers, there's a local sign company that might be able to help.

But thanks Ken :) (we're time travelling still!)

@Mr B - I will pass this on as well, thanks!

Perhaps a clear acrylic sheet (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=HM9509) will do?

They are all 195x195

If you need something larger, something from a hardware store might be a better option.

You might like to consider products like LexanTM. Thinner than perspex, lighter, stronger (like heading towards bullet-proof) and won't craze with age and sun like perspex will.

Thanks Loki, I'll tell him about this but in the interests of authenticity, I think he wants the thicker, older style which was used in the original arcade game cabinets. Then again, I'm not 100% on that :)

A do-it-yourself hobby shop, especially one with model trains.

Ooh yeah, that's a thought Xeno! There's a big model shop not too far away :)

We WILL find this stuff!

You mean like the 709 op-amp for instance, or one packaged in those old "metal can" type packages?

[sorry for thread derail potential]

Okay, have just been informed that we do indeed have Jaycar here and there's one in Ringwood, which is apparently where we're going right now! Thankd Crocalicious.

I've told him to just join the fecking forum, even if he only hangs around in Geek Speak!

Perspex and acrylic are the same thing. If I was in the market for some I'd be going through the yellow pages and looking in the plastics section or even putting acrylic in the search bar. It's available in a number of thicknesses. Going to a plastic supplier rather than Bunnings you will probably get a better range of thicknesses and sizes.

Work out what you want. Most places that will sell to you will probably cut it to size.

It shouldn't be too hard to find.

That's pretty much what the guy at Jaycar told us :) Himself will pay a visit to a place in Dandenong during the week.

Thanks BN.

@Croc - they only had very small squares of it.
