If they what to move the ethics classes into a new time slot...then I'm coming to the conclusion we should get rid of all the scripture class and no one will have anything to go to.
Looks like their trying anything they can to get rid of the ethics classes...i can't imagine having so much hate for something new and wonderful for our non-scripture kid's.At the end of the day it's about the kids...NOT RELIGION.

Why are the Catholic Church attempting to decide what is right and what is wrong for children? After all, it is the church who protect the pedos and sex offenders.

Um, but it's ALWAYS been about religion for these people. Always. And "capture the kids" is the best game in town for the indoctrinators. Having that game taken away from them is freaking them all out something terrible.
As for having "so much hate" ... well history shows clearly that the church(es) have fantastic form throughout history in that department. So nothing new there, unfortunately.

The Catholics have been hammered by several incisive comments in the letters section of this mornings Sydney Morning Herald. Here's two, and the link below
""The Catholic Church argues that ethics classes should not be held in competition with scripture, because it means religious children miss out on ethics. As a former pupil of Catholic schools I can certainly vouch for that.""
""The Catholic Church's approach to ethics: what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine.""

Loved the SMH letters - bought a wry smile to the dial.
The funny thing is, the Catholic and Anglican churches can't see how silly they are being. Just hope the government has the balls to do what's right and not roll over to these nutters.

It has organised a petition arguing that the classes should not be held ''in competition'' with scripture because it means religious children miss out on ethics. (my emphasis)
Hang on... I thought that SRE and their ongoing wonderful religious grounding would take care of that? Or are you saying that... religion isn't about ethics after all? Then what about your earlier arguments that you can't have ethics education without a religious base? Oops guys - better hope no-one notices that one
You utter hypocrites. You don't even mind completely trashing your (so-called) precious religious ethical principles in pursuit of naked, unadulterated self-interest....
Mr Hennessy said the petition, which has more than 35,000 signatories, was intended to recognise ''the important place ethics plays in state schools''.
''It simply asks that if ethics classes are regarded as a valuable addition, they be run at a time other than during SRE time.''
No, it doesn't. What it does is attempt a crude "wedge" strategy: "How can you disadvantage religious children because they can't go to secular ethics classes... which we want to destroy anyway, because we own ethics!".
Not to be outdone for cynical self-interest, here come the anglicans...
Now therefore the way in which the ethics proposal has been put forward, I know for example that there's been no, little consultation. In one P & C that I'm aware of there was a debate held and the question was asked would they consult the SRE teachers in with regard the ethics trial and they said they wouldn't. That's an appalling breach of justice and fair play.
Dude, you admitted for yourself that there was debate, so how does that constitute "no consultation"? Never mind the conflict-of-interest and sheer stupidity of having the people most threatened by the trial have input... gee, wouldn't be any possibility that they might use the opportunity to sabotage the whole thing? And if they did, wouldn't that be "an appalling breach of justice and fair play"?
As would their proposal to take over P&C's! Think about it - would you advocate this "overthrow" strategy if, for example, a proportion of your congregation violently disagreed with what the church leadership was doing....
Tools, all of them. Different "strategies", same shyte.

Say what they will but Metallica said it best. "I see fear in your eyes" from the song "The God that Failed" on their self titled album. Their scared they will be made completely obsolete.

What incredible special pleading! Its not fair that other kids do ethics and we have to choose SRE vs ethics, but its totally fair that kids from non-religious or other religious backgrounds have to sit and rotate while we indoctrinate the others. Wankers.
