G'day all.
I'm an atheist, and I'm from Perth. Found this site through the Dawkins forum.
I'm fairly outspoken on the issue of the impact of religion on people and society (to put it baldly: I'm against it).
I'm working on an article I was planning to submit for publication in the magazine, funnily enough. A friend gave me a copy yesterday.
Anyway, nice to meet you all. Hopefully we can work toward a society free of religious influence.

PS: to Protium... I'll get around to attending a Meetup one of these days. Keep up the good work, mate.

Good to see you here mate. Perth is well represented on this forum.
I've been pretty slack with the Perth Atheists due to a lack of time, but I'm planning on having a speaker and a few drinks at the Scotsman on the 27th April. Love to catch up then.
By the by, I'm a manager at a pub. We could look into the possibility of having a meetup there. We have a restaurant, a pool table, and the ability to cater for (smallish) functions. It's only a little suburban pub, but I'm sure we could hijack a corner of the lounge bar or something.
Anyway, I know what you mean about lack of time... but I'm interested in trying to get more involved with my local atheist community if I can manage it. I'm a writer, I've run websites, I've made tv shows and films (well, not on my own, of course, but I have several years experience in the technical side, having operated cameras and audio, edited, directed, vision-mixed, even choreographed fight scenes, all that stuff). So if anyone has a project in the offing or whatever, I'll be happy to help out if I can.
Time (and financial) constraints dictate, unfortunately, that I can't afford to do much on a volunteer basis. I spent about 5 years working on that basis, and that's no way to build up financial security. I do spend quite a lot of time stuffing about on the computer/net (when I really should be writing) advancing the Evil Atheist Agenda (okay, mainly participating in forums like the Dawkins one and reading Pharyngula and the like) so if anyone has a project that really grabs my interest, I do have some time I could divert.
Any Perth atheist bands out there who want to pony up the dough for me to make their videoclips? :D
(Note: I'm really not any good at dealing with financial stuff regarding such projects. I'm a technical guy. Give me the funds and the brief, and you'll get your product. I've had several projects not get off the ground because I have no clue when it comes to sourcing funds.)

Wish I was on that side of the country - hopefully I'll get to Perth in the nearish future, as I sometimes need to swing by for research purposes (and it's a stop-off on the way to Ningaloo Reef - I'm trying to coral my mates together for another trip there). Sounds like you'd be a great consultant for an atheist perspective film project, Goldenmane.

I would greatly enjoy something like that.

Hiya Goldenmane (it's AA from RDF, using an old internet handle for this forum).
Good to see so many familiar (and rational!) faces around here :)
Will you be coming south for the convention if it goes ahead?
