The stuff below is not all that far removed from what I'd expect from a crazy Muslim publication. Scary that some people are okay with the indoctrination of children...

These are owned by a person whom, religious issues aside, is someone I'd class as a good human being. We agree on a range of social issues and ethics, but continually disagree on matters relating to religion... It's to the point where I no longer broach the subject as it invariably leads to an argument.

Anyway, said person is openly devout and expresses support for the ultra conservatives in the Catholic church - think latin masses, exorcisms, enthronements, doing the rosary every night, strange fasting, all night church services etc.

This would be the 7th grade rifle stripping and RPG class, as per the school curriculum for fundamentalist islamic studies.

I had a rather scare attempt at indoctrination placed upon me at a young age, basically every week we would have this old guy come in a speak to us about God (I was pulled out, but once I forgot my note to be exempt so I had to sit through a lesson!). He realized that the only way to get young boys interested in religion was to tell them gruesome tales about how jesus was crucified and torture techniques (dunno why, i was young and I can't remember) I don't know if it work, but it have me nightmares...

My stomach is churning at that booklet, it disgusts me.

I was at my brother's church (to be fair, more probably his wife's church) when they had a perfomance by a happy clappy version of Hi 5. It was a retelling of the Prodigal Son, told in 'modern' times and the prodigal child was a daughter. My niece (from another brother) then aged 6 was so distraught at the scene where the girl was eating scraps from bins thinking she couldn't go home because her father didn't love her anymore that we had to take her outside.

I took my kids out too (was about to walk anyway). As we were leaving, the actor addressed all the kids and said "When I was 4 I asked Jesus to live in my heart and be my best friend. If you would like to ask Jesus to live in your heart, come down to the front and bring your friends.."

I was nearly sick on the footpath.

One of the reasons this gets to me is that I remember being quite an evangelical child. That makes me feel sick too.

What a horrible case of indoctrination, they haven't even taught her/him how to hold the gun right, she/he has her/his hands around the wrong way...They get punishments if they are not doing what they are told and/or are refused. Psychological tricks like that I remember being used when I was doing the ever so horrifying madrassa too. And it may start out small (such as encouragement of intolerance and bullying non-Muslims) but gets to this point. It was psychologically disturbing for me when I was there, and I only got a billionth of the blisters.
