Hi,
Just introducing myself etc.
Been a long time atheist, I declared my lack of belief at age 12, and endured a further 5 years of the Catholic School system.
Thought I'd see if I could join here to meet some like minded souls (pardon the pun).
I'd like to take a more active role in promotion of reason in society, so hopefully my membership here will help facilitate this in the future.
Have also been a long time fan of the Flying Spaghetti Monster and Church of the Sub-Genius in particular for some time.
I'm now 28, living Brisbane.
Looking forward to some interesting discussions.
Cheers,
Marek

Howdy Marek! Nice to have you here. There have been a few others here who endured Catholic school. How did you do in the RE/RI classes? Were they mainly Catholic/Christian based or did they cover the other world religions as well?

Igneus also endured a Catlick Edumacation as well. His was suprisingly inclusive in talking about other religions during R.E.

Well it differs in the primary school I went to and the 2 high schools.
Don't recall much about primary school, but it lead me to a perhaps early declaration that I was an Atheist in Year 7, perhaps it was the trauma associated with learning the truth about the Easter Bunny/ Tooth Fairy/ Santa Claus , that lead me onto the realisation :)
Junior High at a Marist College was pretty dreary, we had "brothers" as teachers and it was very Catholic based, all about faith and such, in year 11/12 I changed schools to a different (more liberal in seems) catholic school.
The program at my last school ( Mt Maria Snr in Mitchelton) was quite good in my opinion, I recall spending 2 classes watching Monty Python's life of Brian, learning about other major world religions, and cutting out collages, it was the best program (for an atheist) of the 3 I experienced growing up.
I also recall Polish Scouts/School being overtly religious too. It was ironic even at the time (when I was 12) when a polish priest who was teaching us religion was deported for soliciting a prostitute in the valley a couple of years later...

Bought time another local beefed up the Brisbane'ish ranks. I was getting afraid this was turning into a Perth only forum.
Jks.
But not really.
Oh, and hi :)
