No new news sorry, but on the weekend I had a wonderful time up country for a bit of R&R... I have this odd habit of within 10 minutes of entering my hotel/motel room I check for a bible in the top drawer. I haven't been let down yet.

Ok, I have done a bit of reading out of curiosity on this and it stems from The Gideons and their many years of littering habits. Some might call it a generous contribution... littering seems more the truth.

Also one might ask where the money comes from to print these books to give away for free. God is generous I guess.

Gideons International (also known as Gideon's Bible) is an evangelical Protestant organization dedicated to distributing copies of the Bible in over 80 languages and 190 countries of the world to those who might not otherwise encounter it, most famously in hotel and motel rooms. The organization was founded in 1899 in Boscobel, Wisconsin, as an early American parachurch organization dedicated to Christian evangelism. It began distributing free Bibles, the work it is chiefly known for, in 1908, when the first Bibles were placed in the rooms of the Superior Hotel in Superior, Montana.
Nearly 76.9 million Gideon Scriptures were given out in 2007. Close to 1.5 billion have been distributed since 1908.

Ok, I suspect there is no law against someone leaving a bible in each room, so in essence there should be no problem leaving a one page flyer behind the front cover. Many of us know about the amusing sticker joke idea but that could be seen as defacing property (or some other nonsense).

So... with the humorous sticker idea in mind, what would you think of a neat little flyer that could be printed and lovingly placed inside the front cover of bibles found in hotel/motel rooms? Or another similar idea perhaps?

Amusing article (albeit a little old):

Row over Bible removal
ELEANOR HALL: In the city of churches, there's a row over Bibles. Two hotels in Adelaide have caused dismay among religious groups by taking Gideon's Bibles out of guest rooms. The local managers of the international Stamford chain argue the Bibles should go because Australia is a multicultural society.

But the Gideons who've spent almost a century placing nearly one billion Bibles in hotels say they're disappointed by the decision and will pray over it. Lachlan Parker reports from Adelaide...

They invite you to take their book away with you, take them up on it. Every one you take they have to pay to replace. I was thinking of building a dog kennel from them (good insulation) but I don't stay in motels enough. Plus I don't have a dog.

They do!? Ha ha ha ha ahhhhh ha ha.

Maybe I should re-title the thread to... "Practical uses for hotel bibles!"

Oh my the brain is racing off again on a new tangent!

I would probably do some of the following:

Open up to the Ten Commandments and draw asterisks and write exceptions at the bottom of the pages
Cut advertisements from newspapers and magazines, about strip clubs and rave parties, and stick them in under a "Sponsored By" section
Get some white-out tape and start blanking out the word "Lord" and "God" from there.
Put footnotes in certain parts of the Bible and at the bottom of the pages (Wikipedian style) place references to various shock sites.
Place a 50-page introduction a-la-Ray-Comfort to the Bible suggesting for them to try Pastafarianism or Santaclausism instead.

That should sort them out.

I guess if you write below your note "The devil made me do it" you could be forgiven.

Maybe something inside the cover like " Satan was here" would be more appropriate. :D

Or a condom with a note:

"God wont save you from STD's or unwanted pregnancies like this should"

... was that wrong?

Given that hotel rooms come equipped with a buybull and a toilet, I have been known to introduce them to each other on my departure. Just doing my bit. :)
