Hello Folks - I am new to AFA but not new to being an Atheist, Humanist and Bright! I did post something of interest to those trying to do something about separation of church and state, ie, "our" rep in the vatican, but have decided to put it elsewhere...in the media area I think.
Enjoyed the convention very much, as did my two teenage children, who loved every minute. They learned more in those 3 days than they could have in 3 years from any other source. What a privilege to see and hear people of such intellect and scientific standing!

Thanks for your friendly welcome, it is appreciated - so good to be on board! Yes, I know about the High Court Challenge and intend to support it.
One of the big issues for me also is the lack of respect for science, there's a lot to be done with regard to that too. My son has a T-shirt with Carl Sagan's quote "We have designed our civilisation based on science and technology and at the same time arranged things so that almost no-one understands anything at all about science and technology. This is a clear prescription for disaster." We know all about celebrities and sports stars but serious concerns and other issues of interest raised by scientific researchers are found at the back of the newspapers, if at all, and that's when they're not being totally denied by the people potentially governing our country! Amazing!
PS - thanks to whoever fixed my title!!

HI Meg and welcome!

I took my teen to the convention too - I hope he got something out of it! Even if not now then maybe for the future?

I love the sound of that t-shirt, any idea where you get one?

Hello Meg,

i am also a Bright but due to the other three boards I belong to, I don't get there very often. Edge is another thoughtful site - worth looking at if you haven't already.

Hi to All who have welcomed me - and to reply to Kazzaqld, we bought the T-shirt from a certain very well-known auction site, just look up Carl Sagan and it will produce for you (I hope) a plethora of goodies. Of course, for those with children, you may have difficulty finding a child's size, as noone seems to think children have an interest in these things, which in turn is why children don't... Hope you find some!
Thanks for the word on Edge nari.
Look forward to future dialogue! Going to see PZ tomorrow, he's here in Canberra..

Thanks Meg, I should probably have said that my son is 14 and taller than me, so hopefully size won't be an issue!

Very jealous of you seeing PZ he was awesome in Melbourne!
