View Full Version : Want a Shout-Out from the Stage At GAC?

Are you going to the Global Atheist Convention? Got a group (or even yourself!) who has traveled a long way to be there? Or even just newly formed a group and want some recognition so other attendees will know that there's something local to them that they can join?
I'm working at the Convention and would love to give a shout-out from the stage to such groups and individuals, to recognise them 'being out and proud'. Leave a message here or on the Atheist Nexus Forum and I'll be incorporating them during the weekend in between speakers. Thanks! :)

Oh YEAH!!
May I have permission to post this at another forum? There's quite a lot attending from that new group - refugees from the once-was-Richard Dawkins forum. They'd love a shout out!
And of course ... us, here :o :D
Edit to add: it's a separate forum now, RD won't be mentioned, just the name of the new forum etc. if that's okay?

We have a skeptical podcast in New Zealand - www.thecusp.org.nz (http://www.thecusp.org.nz)
I will be attending the GAC - the whole weekend. We'd love a shout-out.

Will Perth people get a priority?

Were? Or simply devoid of apostrophes over in the west? ;)
In any event, I look forward to your compelling evidence for this outrageous claim :D

As the person who RUNS the Perth Skeptics... I think you'll find that it's a possibility... ;)
Give exactly what you want me to say in terms of your name, and regarding the Dawkins new forum, certainly can do! :) Leave details here so I can say the url correctly?

...fine, no pressure. But if there's a new group formed or people traveling a long way to be there, perhaps they'd like the profile raised. That's all.

I think there might be some disgruntled gay folk who might take umbrage!

Gay folks are shooting themselves in the foot if they are anti-atheist, because most religions, most of the time, persecute gays unmercifully. Atheists base their ethics on reality and humanist feelings like compassion, fairness, equality, tolerance, not some ancient manual for war-lords to subjugate a population by "divine right".

That'd be great, Podblack.
The Sydney Atheists and Western Sydney Freethinkers are always looking for a shout out to a crowd!
Also, it might be good to tell people about the Google calendar that I've made to keep track of the mountain of concurrent events over the next week or so.
The calendar can be viewed here (http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=2lq0ji3vfjbl3fr83momfe0goo%40group.calen dar.google.com&ctz=Australia/Sydney)
I look forward to finally meeting you!

Actually, there's been relatively few people who have mentioned groups. I've counted less than ten. That's what I'll use.
My talk is on the Sunday morning. I'll be focusing on the research I've done, as the title suggests. But I'll be on the stage as an MC throughout the weekend. That's when I thought I'd make a mention.

Not sure what you're suggesting there, but if you want to do your own projects, feel free. I'm just focusing on recognising some groups during the weekend, since I have the opportunity and the time.

Any mention of Atheist Nexus, Brisbane Atheists Meetup Group or the Sunshine Coast Atheists would be much appreciated - but realize there's only so many names you can mention, Poddy!

My husband and I come representing Charlotte Atheists and Agnostics from Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
This trip is also our honeymoon, but we planned it because of GAC

@DBD - the notion of "owning" a phrase or part of the language appears to transcend anything approaching logic.
Which probably explains why it's a favourite passtime of lawyers :)

Thanks for the shoutout! It led to many interesting conversations. Yes, we did really fly to Australia just for the conference.
I've added your blogs to my RSS feed on my phone and I will enjoy listening to the episodes on my long flight back home.
