Yep. We've spent the greater part of the afternoon mopping up.

We've flooded (again, last time was in 2006) and the house is full of dirt and leaves ... the loo window smashed, the hail stones were (for the first time, this is absolutely true!) the size of golf balls. Damage to both our cars and the laserlite on the back patio is in tatters.

The lounge room floor will have to be replaced. Again. And of course it's a long weekend so I can't ring the insurance company until Tuesday.

Still, at least it wasn't convention weekend! I bet we have perfect weather for the GAC :)

Saw the news on Melbourne's flooding/hail. Couldn't help thinking of the hurricane in Orleans (not quite a 1 to 1 comparison) and some groups of people blaming the storm as God's way of punishing USA for becoming more secular (more specifically, some even blamed it on homosexuality).

I'm wondering if any group in Australia with correlate the Melbourne storms with the Atheist Convention.

Just a thought.

Spoke too soon:

"Massive hail : Melbourne hosts international atheist convention. God, I see what you did there."

Some pics of damage we sustained yesterday. I'm currently on hold to my car insurer as the poor little car looks like someone took a baseball bat to it - divots all over it!

The laserlite on the patio:

Check out the size of those hailstones!

The loo window! And in case you're wondering, that globe of light above the window isn't any supernatural orb, it's because I was wearing one of our headlamps we use when camping! We had no power for hours yesterday.

I've lodged a claim for the damage but won't hear from anyone until Tuesday because of course it's a long weekend isn't it?

Damn Praxis, that's bad... your Laserlite... is it PVC or Polycarbonate? I have never seen Polycarbonate do that before unless it's been attacked by some sort of chemical... Assuming your insurers come through with the goods go for polycarbonate (laserlite 2000). Actually I am not sure if they make PVC Laserlite anymore.

A good number of my friends have roof tile damage, cars are trashed, windows broken, flooding etc. One of my friends even got caught walking home and had to start running through the hail and copped a big lump to her face cutting it and she is now waiting for bruising.

I think there will be a lot of phone calls on Monday.

We were driving down to Phillip Island when we heard the weather warning (not to leave your home ) to do some fishing! We ended up fishing in the rain for a while but we missed the main storm completely but certainly watched a whopper in the distance.

Mel-bun is the silliest place on the planet, weather wise. You never know whether to pack gear for an Antarctic expedition, or your bathers and thongs-both weather states can exist within an hour of each other.

Mel-bun is a nice place to visit, but only the crazies live there! :D:D

We love you too! And we know you love us ... why else do you keep coming back?

@Fearless - I don't know what it is really, I just tend to call it laserlite as a generic name. We were going to replace it anyway so it's actually not so bad it was damaged so badly. We were surprised it shattered so badly though. I tried to get video of the hail as it was belting down but it was too dangerous to even stand at the glass doors. It was pretty scary.

It's more the loungeroom floor I'm worried about. I don't want to have to go through it all again, having it ripped up and replaced and living with concrete and large industrial fans for weeks ... *sigh*

The cultural stuff, the shopping [especially books] and the sexy women, what else? :)

Aktooouuually, Mrs. DB and myself are thinking of moving there, if we can earn enough bread to keep body and soul together. Which means getting a job, of course. I am thinking about teaching at Ballarat Uni, whose weather is even crazier the 'bun's, apparently.:D

I'm just waiting for Catch the Fire Ministry to blame the storms on us sinful sodomites here in Victoria. After all, they claimed that Black Saturday was punishment for allowing legalised abortion in Victoria. Those wacky Christians!

Got friends and family in Rowville where 1600 SES calls were made yesterday. Among those who I know were sustained two damaged cars (1 written off) and a damaged house to the extent that the electrics are fried.

I was fortunate to get away with only getting a little wet running to and from my car.

Was at Southern Cross station on saturday arvo. It was pretty spectacular when parts of the roof gave way and tons of water and hail hit the platform. If you were under it you would probably be dead.

It was really interesting, only one person pannicked - the bloke on the PA screaming EVACUATE! EVACUATE! I don't know where we were suppose to go. Everyone just went to another part of the station and stood under another part of the roof and received no further direction.

Maybe "evacuate" was being used in the old medical sense (http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/evacuating), ie "poop yourself".

Nothing old about it! I have gatroenterologists as a major client and I can tell you that "evacuate" is still used on a daily basis! (except for those who are a bit stuck ... some of them only use it every three to four days or so :D )

I was in the middle of playing in a cricket semi final- needless to say "rain" stopped play, in fact it knocked all 6 stumps out of the ground!

I copped similar damage Praxis, couple o' smashed windows and water damage.

I would endure the damage again just to see a storm like that again, it was fucking awesome, I loved it!!
