My 14 yearold is accompanying my husband and me to the convention. Becasue we have to fly down from Brisbane, he is missing the Friday at school.

I asked him today what lessons he has on that day and asked him to ask his teachers for the work for the day to complete.

As it happens, one of his subjects for the day is Biology - do any of you know any biologists attending who might be able to assist? :D;)

Hmmmm .... lemme think ...

Nah, can't think of any offhand :D

Doesn't the school have course work they can give him? I know someone who took her high school kids overseas for a few weeks last year and the schools provided them with work to do while they were away so they didn't slip behind. I know this is only the one day but there must be something they can give him that pertains to what the class is doing?

The amount of Fridays I wagged were staggering. Not that I'm a good example. But I still managed to get VHA's. Missing one day is not going to hurt in the slightest. Mostly, when kids come home and tell you "What did you learn today?" "Nothing" - its because we pretty much learnt nothing worth mentioning. High School is a slow process - drill the same things into you for 5 years, you're bound to eventually take some of it on board. It's not a day on day process of discovering new things.

But that again, was just my experience. Grade 8 was a repeat of Grade 7, 9 a repeat of 8, 10 a repeat of 9 etc etc etc.

Maybe let your son have this one? ;) I'm sure he'd love homework on a holiday in Melbourne.

That's what I'm hoping, yes!

Hey, I made him take homework on holiday to Disney! :p

I don't think there'll be much for one day tbh - it was really more about making sure his teachers know he won't be there and that there's no assessment he'll be missing. He does have a French test this Friday so it's possible there's something down for next Friday.

And how cool would it be to go to his Biology teacher on the Monday and tell the teacher who helped him. (not of course that I really think that's at all likely! )

I'm going to be missing lectures and pracs in Human Geography, Tas Fauna and plant physiology. Also possibly my touch football grand final. I am the captain coach of our team, and also the favourite to win the best player award for the competition. If we do make the grand final and it is during those dates (they aren't published yet, but it's likely), there's probably about a 50% chance I'll try to sell my convention tickets.

Good news. Final is this Friday, so I'll still be there. I would be happy to help your son with his biology homework if you can't get any famous people to do it too :)
