Hey'all,

Just wanted to start by mea culpa-ing about selling the tickets on ebay (yeah it was me...was trying to make a nice long post ending in an Obi-Wan style..."of course I know him, he's me" deal but that seemed a touch twee).

It really was a tough call, as soon as I heard about this event I couldn't wait to go, and even now I'm more than a little bummed about parting with the tix. As was described by Lee in the thread (oh and she was a wonderful person to talk to by the way) I had to make the judgement call on the tix or the upcoming trip. The American adventure is one that I've been putting every spare cent into for the better part of two and a half years (and been dreaming of for way longer). The tornado tour part alone was...well...no change from $3000US and so on. The problem is that as the actual dates get closer the little expenses (both trip and non-trip related) are adding up and although I had the Atheism event tickets I'd still not arranged any travel or accomodation.

Point is that I made the call and, after deciding that I really couldn't justify the expense of the trip to Melbourne itself, I embraced capitalism by auctioning the tickets. Money grubbing I know, and doubly so because I do genuinely hate people that willingly snaffle up two dozen big event tickets just so they can then scalp 'em on Ebay for way more than they're worth. I can only spread wide my hands and say that I honestly bought the tickets with every intention of going, and that although I did make some cash on the sale it wasn't some crazy, bought for $400 sold for $1800 kinda deal.

Anyway, with all that off my chest (and honestly only having discovered when I spoke to Lee the other day that his Forum even existed...I really need to pay closer attention to websites), I just thought I'd say 'hi' and 'sorry' and 'have fun' to everybody that's going to Melbourne. It should be a truly awesome event.

So let the flaming begin.

So let the flaming begin.

Hi Cal, Welcome to the AFA forums... There is no need for flaming unless you are asking for it. ;)

I haven't really kept myself up to speed with this ticket thing but I will go and have a look now.

So far I can understand your position.

Hope you enjoy your stay and thanks for the well wishes.

Hi Cal - I was narky at you, before I knew it was you, but I can forgive you for having capitalistic failings :p

I have no problem with you selling the ticket on ebay. A simple case of supply and demand.

Forget about the ticket; tell us more about the DeLorean! :)

... and whether it has a flux capacitor.

Hey, just thought, you shouldn't have sold that ticket. You could have gone to the US, picked up the De Lorean, set the time for early March 2010, hit 88 miles an hour, and voila - you're back in Melbourne in time for the Convention. Silly you!

Lol, the Delorean (and indeed the trip I'm doing with it) is a saga perhaps I should move to the Off-topic section...although a spontaneous car story in there may be a bit of a surprise.
The short version is that I'd been interested in it since seeing Back to the Future, and then I wanted one the minute I saw my first photo of the car without all the Doc Brown paraphernalia hanging off it.
The trip itself was based around a decision to go tornado chasing, that then blossomed out in a massive road-trip extravaganza across the continental US for two months. I'll be spending a bit of time down south, across the plains and maybe even swinging through Salt Lake City, so I have no doubt I'll get my fair share of religious craziness. :) But unlike a certain motoring trio recently I intend to keep things a little low-key and won't be painting "Man Love Rules OK" in pink down the side.
And it's okay Chrys, because once I get the flux capacitor fluxing I'll be able to go right back and order the tickets again when they're first released. :D

So does this mean that you know me? Or just that you accepted my embarrassed apology? :)

Oh, and I moved the Delorean/Trip aspect of this discussion to the Off Topic section. :)
