Right... On the list of Things I Realized A Little Too Late comes the dreaded ayurvedic medicine.
This seems to have something to do with Ayurveda and has some "harmony" and "balance" and whatever whacko terms they use.
A quick check up with RationalWiki reveals that it falls under the same category as homeopathy: it is all woodoo
My parents have this strange belief in ayurvedic medicine (yes... funny enough dad is a cardiologist... I'm curious to hear what his patients think of him!) and that it is better than going to a psychiatrist and what not.
To be honest, they even put me on this stuff called "brahmi" which is supposedly a herb which increases alertness. Kind of like redbull but with a lot less oomph.
I have "overdosed" on this stuff numerous times only to find it has EXACTLY the same effects as taking dihydrogen monoxide.
Now unfortunately any attempts to explain to them "this doesn't work" has proven futile. I'm not sure what to make of this, and whether it is worth explaining to them that it is "crack medicine" because I have this unusual feeling that, as usual, they'll try and sneak the bizarre medicines in, according to them it is favorable to commercial antidepressants.
Yes: not even the ol' St John's Wort seems to do the trick anymore. Also, my mother is saying that "I will not be allowed to drive or ride when I am on antipsychotic drugs" and I am having trouble on whether or not to believe that.
Any suggestions cyberfellas?
