Hey, hey; I'm a sixteen year old atheist. My family's a bunch of atheists; except for my grandparents, who are really weird and it's generally agreed that they're idiots. So, yeah. No-one cares about what they have to say (sorry if you read this, but it's true).

Welcome aboard Trekkie :)

May you live long enough to be considered by teenagers as a weird idiot who knows nothing!

I already am; but somehow I've managed to get my way into all the top classes at school...can someone explain that to me?

Isn't the preferred terminology, Trekker(s)?

And yes, thanks to JJ (Abrams for those who aren't savvy in Hollywood directors), Star Trek is back (Was it ever "in"?) - in the mainstream.

Plus there is now a new MMORPG game to complement the movie and make sure that there will be more Trekkers well into the foreseeable future.

And then yet to come is a JJ sequel.

Anyway, welcome, and hey - who says he is a Trekker? He just might really like hiking.

How do you know Trekkie is a he? he he wind up.

Anyway, I remember being in a video shop once and couldn't help but overhear a conversation in the next aisle. A long drawn out conversation that was 'out of this world!' I couldn't follow it.

Curiosity got at me, so I walked around to see some interestingly dressed people talking in a huddle... on closer inspection they all had the Star Trek logo pinned to their clothes standing at the Star Trek section... then the penny dropped.

This was about 20 years ago mind you.

I went and got my horror flick and got outta there!

Oh by the way, welcome to the forums Trekkie! Enjoy your stay. ;)

Correction for Fearless (and Trekkie - who if does turn out to be other than a human male, I apologise):

Gotta love those recessive genes.

And what I meant was that hopefully one day you too will be old. At that time, you will be very well aware that young people consider you an idiot and anything you have to say worthless and that you know nothing, but you will know better, with the wisdom and hindsight of age. It's quite a gift, age :)

Good on you for being top of your class. Try and keep it up. The baby pool or school is nothing like the ocean of the real world so make sure you practice your swimming so you can stay on top.

The terminology depends on who you ask. And Trekkies/Trekkers are still looked on as weird in my area, so go figure. I've been into Star Trek since before JJ Trek came along.

I'd say his chances are pretty good. After all, reaching 25 is not all that uncommon today. A lot of people get to be REALLy old, like say 40.

What is old? Anyone 10 years older than me. Young is anyone under 50. --except if female, then it's anyone I'd like to root, which usually means (1) under 40 and (2) Buckley's.

Welcome Trekkie

PS: Does your nick indicate you think William Shatner could act before he turned into Denny Crane? :p

Um, that wasn't really what I had in mind; it was supposed to indicate that I really, really, really, really like Star Trek.

Because we've got a bunch of jerks in charge who say, "We don't know what that is. Because we're in charge, we declare that it shall henceforth be called a thing." :D

I'll go with 'thing' over some of the scientific names they keep giving 'things' these days. ;)

hmmm ... i think we call a something "thing" when:
we are unable to explain that
we don't have much past experience to relate to
we think we're no more into that [don't want to ponder about that]
we classify that as something separate than most others resembling that

I have a few questions...

Kirk or Picard?
Bones or Krusher?
Scotty or LaForge?
Spock or Data?

Yes, there are right and wrong answers.

Ignore the Goat. He knows not whereof he speaks (on this issue at least).

My partner used to try and tell me it is fiction. Can you believe that?

Oh,OK.

I like Star Trek too. I really liked the original when it was first shown on TV (yes,I'm THAT old)

Now my favourite memories are of Voyager, due mainly to Seven Of Nine's sprayed -on jumpsuit.:D

PLUS all of the spin off shows.

Currently enjoying "Stargate Universe" as the closest thing available to a Star Treks series. (never took to remake of 'Batlestar Galactica') The remake of 'V' also looks promising.

Ro.
Chekov. Only cause of "wessels". But Sulu is in more cameos... hmmm...

I am retrying it on DVD - can watch it at a decent hour, plus no risk of the TV station changing the time at no notice, not to mention being able to fast-forward through the incredibly tedious 'left behind on Caprica' story arc (I presume this will get to a point eventually). Much better second time around.

I recently watched 'The Plan' on DVD. It contained rare ,shocking scene; a child being graphically and casually murdered. I guess that helped me enjoy the barbaric spectacle of the two Dean Stockwells being air locked. (could have been worse;they could have shown what really happens when you throw some one into a vacuum)
