Hi there, I've always been an atheist, my mother was an atheist and I'm not even baptized. My father wanted us to go to Sunday school but we wouldn't go.
I notice that the programme for next year's conference is not yet finalized so the main reason I've joined is to suggest, if anyone reads these things, that Matt Dillahunty from the Non-Prophets - the Atheist Community of Austin - should be invited to come and speak. He's a very effective and entertaining anti-apologist who really deserves a wider audience than Austin Texas, although it's obvious that their show is growing rapidly in popularity.
An atheist from Texas can really report from the frontlines! I'd really love to hear him speak.

Hi Janete! Welcome. I believe the programme for the convention is finalized - especially with regard to international speakers. But you're right - Matt Dillahunty would be a great addition. Unfortunately, we just can't have everyone!
Hopefully, the convention will be such a roaring success that the AFA can justify having them regularly. I know I have many favourites who didn't make the list that I would love to see too!
I hope you'll attend the convention - even if we can't provide Matt for you.

While Matt Dillahunty isn't on the programme, UK philosopher A C Grayling has recently been added, as has ABC Science Programme presenter, Robyn Williams. Two great additions!
Don't forget to register on the Convention website (http://www.atheistconvention.org.au).

That reminds me, I meant to read The Physicist at the Mall.
Welcome to the forums Janet.

Yep that's the same guy. He is the president of the The Atheist Community of Austin and they run The Atheist Experience and The Non Prophets which are both available as podcasts. Matt would of been a good addition but the line up of speakers for the convention is already awesome.. I can't wait! :D

I'll contact Matt and see if he can give the Convention a 'plug' on the show.
.... Done! Sent him a note through Atheist Nexus with a link to the Official Media Release. (http://indymedia.org.au/2009/10/01/the-rise-of-atheism-%E2%80%93-global-atheist-convention-melbourne-march-12-14th-2010)
