Just bought my first hot cross buns for the year...and they even had the cross!!!
I'll ask the bakery tomorrow whether they've been getting any complaints.
There just doesn't seem to be the outcry anymore like in previous years.
Maybe the believers are giving up the fight :)

If it called a hot cross bun then I'm sure it will have a cross on it, if it didn't I would sue for mis-representation, its not even hot when you buy them so that a worry too

I remember this time last year, in an effort to placate the offended christians the crosses were left off.

I missed the hot cross buns controversy. Why would believers be upset about the presence of their religious symbol on a bun????? It's a very traditional part of Easter, you'd think they'd be thrilled that public bakeries were fixing religious food.

Tried to google it, but came up empty. Maybe I should have used Google Australia.

Maybe they could expand the repertoire to include horoscope symbols - ("Sticky buns will feature heavily in your social life")

My mum said to her friend once "... I should have known my daughter would turn out an atheist. As a child she would always peel the icing off the hot cross buns"

How about we have a circle with a cross inside and a big red diagonal line running through it? It could be served alongside out atheist "unholy water" bottled water brand.

Controversial because the supermarkets were selling HCB straight after xmas.
In other words they were profiteering because HCB should really only be sold closer to easter.

P.S. Note how I write 'xmas' - everytime I do this it bings back memories from Yr.7 and how I got berated by Brother Pat for leaving the 'christ' out of christmas!

Chasly, AHHHHH profiting off of their beloved savior's sacrifice. THE HORROR!!!!

You want to really give Brother Pat the shits. Call it Xmyth as is proper. You sound like you have a lisp, hence the plausible deniabilit,y while saying what it REALLY is. A former myth with nothing real at it's heart.

the cross on the bun makes it look more interesting than a plain bun
i guess religious people have never enjoyed art or geometry
let alone understand it

good point

i personally dont have a problem with christmas, its a joy filled holiday for those who can lighten up enough to celebrate it

i just wish we could have a white christmas here in perth sometimes
but i know that wont happen any time soon & so hopefully i may get to experience a christmas in switzerland, new york & other joy filled places during the holiday season

as for all the hooha over the name, people seriously need to get a life & learn how to ignore the superficial if they do not agree with it

in my opinion, people who get offended are are the ignorant ones as they seem to have no capacity to live & let live

Ahh yes, to be offended:rolleyes:
That's in my list of most stupid emotions - right up there with jealousy and hate.
I thought only god's were allowed to be that petty?

My problem with xmas is the crappy xian shit we get shoved down our throats along with it! Like my kids primary school xmas concert. Two Aussie xmas songs, and the other 30-odd songs all about bloody little baby jeebus, stinking shepherds and mangy mangers and fricken angels.

Considering I have opted-out my daughter from RE, I feel that it's indoctrination by stealth.

I don't have a problem with people who don't have a probelm with xmas. But I do have a probelm about them being so judgmental towards those who do!

I have every intention of treating it as a silly myth and sending my kids to school around Christmas with a book about Horus and a lot of difficult questions.
