With the 2012 Global Atheist Convention only one month away, the AFA is again advertising on public transport in Melbourne.
Using a provocative quote by Woody Allen, “IF GOD EXISTS, I HOPE HE HAS A GOOD EXCUSE”, the intention is to inform people who otherwise might not know about the convention, that it is going on and that it is going to be an absolutely fantastic and unrepeatable experience not to be missed.
David Nicholls, president of the Atheist Foundation of Australia, had this to say about the adverts: “Woody Allen’s words encapsulate the thoughts of the freethinking community and the sneaking suspicions of a growing number of religious people as well. Considering the immensity of the unnecessary death, pain and suffering on the planet, an alleged all-powerful and all-loving god certainly has a lot to answer for.”
The 2012 Global Atheist Convention runs from Friday 13 April (superstitious people need not apply) to Sunday 15 April. It is jam-packed with some of the brightest minds of our time as well as great comedic acts and a liberal dose of other exciting presentations. Top class catering is included in the price of a ticket.
Nicholls went on to say, “As far as all evidence to date suggests, the universe runs on natural laws with planet Earth just an insignificant speck in an unimaginably enormous cosmos. A god certainly needs to explain why, with such a mind-blowingly complicated system that can be understood using reason, reason should be dismissed in human affairs in favour of accepting answers based in delusion.”
