03-Casino Mafia Signup

I'd be happy to run a simplified version of the Casino Mafia game I ran at Ratskep with...

* 1 bad guy team only
* All powers stay constant with each player (no rotating powers)
* Everyone uses their own forum name
* No gambling to increase/decrease voting powers.

It's pretty much a traditional style mafia game, with some nice graphics and storylines already created and ready to go at short notice.

Welcome to the La Cosa Nostra Casino where their motto is "We'll offer you some games you can't refuse". On the face of it, the casino is a great place to enjoy responsible gambling, entertainment, food and liquid refreshments while staying in 5 star luxury at the hotel. However, rumours abound of underworld involvement in the running of the casino and there's been a spate of strange deaths recently. You have all been invited to stay in the hotel and play in the casino, but it now appears that your dream vacation may be turning into a nightmare. Mafia members have infiltrated the hotel and are trying to take over - and they will eliminate anyone they think is getting in their way. The innocents decide to take matters into their own hands and must try to eliminate the scourge infesting the hotel and lynch a mafia suspect daily.

On the innocents' side are a number of players with capabilities which may or may not assist the identification and/or capture of the mafia team members. However, be warned - the mafia team may be small, but it is powerful. The smaller mafia team knows who each other is and can coordinate their actions together.

All mafia players with the exception of the Godfather appear guilty on an investigation.

All innnocent players, with the exception of perhaps one or two players hampered by certain considerations, appear innocent on investigation.

Lynch Votes

Lynch votes are compulsory in this game. 5 penalty votes will be assigned in the following day round to each player who neglects to vote.

Mafia for Newbies

There are good guys (also called "innocents", or "town" players) and bad guys (also called "scum" or "mafia"). The good guys start the game not knowing who anyone else is in the game. The bad guys start knowing who else is bad and on their team (sometimes there are more than one bad guy teams) and thus by default, who the innocents and/or other bad guys are. The game is separated into day and night rounds.

The object of the game is for the good guys to vote to lynch one person per day round and hopefully choose a bad guy each day to get rid of until there are none left. Sometimes mistakes are made of course. Some good guys also have special powers which may enable them to kill off a suspected bad guy, protect other players, investigate other players, block the actions of another players and so on. These are often referred to as "special innocents".

The bad guys have to secretly kill off an innocent player each night round and remain undiscovered until they have a majority voting bloc at which time they can control the day round voting and the game is unwinnable for the innocents.

We try to work out who is who by :-
* Suspicious behaviour in posts
* Investigations by special innocents
* Clues provided by the game Mods.
* Logic and deduction based on whatever you consider logical and deductive.

We DO NOT use :-
* Previous game roles
* Previous grudges and vendettas
* Cheating
* Claims that doing/saying "xxxxxx" is a sure sign of scumminess according to some alleged authority on Mafia games.

to identify other players.

Players may make claims about their roles and may lie and deceive other players publicly and/or by PM. Misdirection and fraud is integral to the game. The innocents need to work together to find out who is trustworthy and can help get rid of the bad guys.

There are some versions of Mafia games where the mafia team have the option of either killing or recruiting someone from the innocent team. I might try this sort of game later on down the track, but for this one, the team you start on is the team you stay on.

I didn't know how to play either, and I had a baptism of fire on Sunday morning when I woke up to find I was the only scum still alive in town.

That's when it got fun.

The basic play is this.

If you're town, stay alive, and identify the scum to get them lynched.

If you're scum, stay alive, and try and get town lynched as well as work out who to off each night.

There. Easy.

Good, then you can help me with Tapatalk. I used it, for the very first time ever, during the the first Mafia game and, well, I screwed up the voting (compounded somewhat by a 3G hitch). :facepalm:

Last game I just used Atomic. No screw-ups but I figure there's a reason for Tapatalk, so if I know how to use it properly I'll know why it's better to use. Part of the problem was the copy/pasting malarkey, another part was the refresh.

Play and learn. It unfolds as you go. It helps if you've got a bit of imagination (given that if you're scum you'll have to lie through your teeth, convincing people you're innocent) and also an ability to add flavour to a themed game such as this one by rolling along with the scenario.

If you read through one of the previous games you'll see how it pans out.

It is pretty confusing the first time but it really does get clearer once you're playing. Give it a go!
