I have an iPhone 3 and today I got a strange text from a weird number starting with +1. I deleted the messages, but I can't get rid of the number. Any ideas?

In the list of Messages, tap Edit. You should see a red minus sign next to each message source. Tap that sign then the Delete confirmation on the right.
Tap Edit again to exit that mode.
Alternatively, when looking at the list of messages, swipe a finger right to left across the message number/name you wish to delete. A Delete button should appear. Tap it. That will remove the conversation.

Thanks Xeno. I showed the messages to some young 'uns I worked with and they began to scream "SPAM SPAM" and hurl holy water and garlic at me (rather glad they didnt have a wooden stake handy). I tried the delete thing over and over but while I could get rid of the message I couldnt delete the number.
But in the manner of true internet magic, this morning it is gone. :D

The number is deleted a level up the menu tree from deleting the message itself. However, internet magic thingy works even better.
