I love his work too peterthames but I worry about his safety all the time! He says that he gets recognised on the street and most people are supportive which is great.
What worries me is the nutjob he won't see coming! :(

A sample of the copious amounts of spew available on the above website:
"why don't you kill yourself white bastard? or do you want me to do it?
do you have a white daughter to rape and molest?
or are you scared your number is decreasing you redneck?"
"IF I SEE YU IN PUBLIC I WILL NIFE U .IF U DONT START TAKING DOWN THESE ANTI ISLAM VIDEOS I WILL BE SENDING YOUR PICTURE TO ALL MY BROTHERS IN LONDON (ABOUT 1000 OF THEM) AND THEY WILL DO THE SAME AND YOU WILL HAVE WISHED THAT U WERE NOT EVEN BORN,
YOU HAVE 2 HOURS STARTING FROM WHEN YOU SEE THIS MESSAGE "

Wow Lizzy, that's pretty heavy reading right there... I respect his stance but to be honest I don't doubt there are plenty of nutjobs out there who would hurt him or worse. Risky business.
The thing that also concerns me is why would you take offence to his words if you were non-religious (unless you generally take serious offence at his view). My point being there is a part of me that believes most of those messages are from people who believe they are of some particular faith and refer to themselves as being religious... assuming this is correct then well it sounds more like evil tongue than rational religious views. I'm finding it hard to explain myself but basically I would never expect to read/hear that sort of thing from religious people.
I guess it's going back to one of my first threads: http://www.atheistfoundation.org.au/forums/showthread.php?t=1024
(sorry for the confusing post)

Not confusing at all Fearless. :)
The hypocrisy of religious people has always amazed and confounded me too. When talking to a religious person (or anyone who sprouts superstitious crap) I feel like I'm talking to a retarded person.*
They get so....excited?....when they're talking about their god, faith, tarot card readings, clairvoyants etc it's scary.
I was told I am "close minded" a few years ago by someone who said they were "open minded". This person said I needed to open my mind and believe that someone can communicate with my dead relatives and make predictions about me by reading cards....yadda yadda. I asked a lot of questions about it all and was told I was being closed minded. Ask questions = close minded. Riiight. Hypocrisy.
The fact that some people can get riled up enough to write threats of violence to someone is beyond me. But then again religious and superstitious beliefs are so childlike why am I surprised at the juvenile reaction?
If someone is religious and has such faith and love for their god filling their world I'd think they'd get on with their lives happy in the knowledge that Pat will one day "be judged by his maker" for being so naughty?
I don't understand how someone who is non-religious could take offense at Pat's comments enough to write threats. I can only guess that they are afraid of being "tarred with the same brush" and becoming a target too? I don't know.

I'm a pacifist and any violence these people perpetrate will be their undoing, it also just goes to show that when they hear the truth they don't know it or understand it and if you don't understand it they may think that there is a threat to them so revert to primitive urges of defence and attack, totally uncalled for in today's society, but alas reality, we can only reinforce to society for free speech to be upheld, I think it will take 500 years before religious folk of the world will come to their senses and realize there is no God that they believe in and it's all been the world biggest con job

Nicholas Slonimsky once wrote, "People hate the things they don't understand". He was talking about the reactions to modernist composers of the early 20th century, but it's a maxim that holds true regardless of the subject - every kind of bigotry has its roots in a lack of understanding to begin with followed by a refusal to try and understand.

Or fear. Pat Condell says, in one of his videos, that hate is simply fear with attitude. If you hate something, you're afraid of it. And that makes you a big pussy.
I couldn't agree more.
