I am not sure it is exactly a dream for me to go. I had thought about that at one point but realized that the sheer number of people (3000+ or so am I right? It was 2000+ for the 2010 convention) will not work well with me.

I'd also like to try and arrange for AFA tables to be near other tables of similar origin, like the Ratskepians and the Pharyngulites (and close to the front and close to the drinks and anything else good I can think of).

I think it would be too much work for the organisers if we just sent in a list of forum names. RL names and email addresses to a trusted intermediary sound good to me - one of us could send the names in, and CC everyone to make sure it's all cool.

My name is still Praxis and IIRC, it was damned hard getting hold of you because right about the time we were organising tables, the RDF forum imploded and was later subsequently rubbed out of online history so I had no access to my PMs. Took a while to get hold of the various people who had said they wanted to be part of my table booking, including you, but I prevailed :D

AND here we are again!

Meanwhile, I'm in a bit of a quandary - of COURSE I want to sit with forumites, but I also want to sit with Mod Central (if they have their own table) PLUS I have some Twitter pals whom I'd also love to sit with.

So I guess I will just put my name on the list and then do exactly as I did last year, which was flit frenetically from table to table like a demented moth, trying to touch base with as many fabulous people as I possibly can and nicking dessert from the plates of those who have similarly left their posts for a moment and thus made their dessert fair game.

You can sit with and near whoever you like ... BUT ... seating needs to be allocated so we can give the MCEC people a list of table numbers stating how many will have omnivore, vegetarian, vegan food etc.

There are a lot of mouths to feed and syncronising everything so it all runs smoothly is a huge task.

What I would like you to do is pick a team leader...i.e. Loki.
Everyone who wants to sit on a Forum table send their confirmation number, name and email to the leader. You can include your forum name too if you feel like it.

The leader can then send us (the Dinner Committee) an email with all the details.

We understand that things might need minor alterations as we get closer to the GAC but that's OK.

You can come out of your room now Praxy.

Last time I was with a table of friends (mostly the backstage gang - volunteers from the Melbourne podcast The Pseudoscientists and one person who I sincerely hope won't be coming again - no idea how they popped up, but never mind) and I spent most of the dessert time running around the entire room catching up with everyone I possibly can (and people took photos and stuff like that). :) So as long as I'm able to run around a bit and say hi, that would be brilliant.

Perhaps also coordinate closer to the time what our table numbers are, so if we're all over the place, we can at least say 'head to Table 5 at some point to catch up with X, Y and Z?'

I've taken it upon myself to herd the Ratskep cats. I've PM'd the 15 or so RS people that are coming and so far have yeses from Reddix and her husband, Natselrox (if he can sort out his payment problems from India) and Darkchilde. And myself of course. If we're with Starr, that makes 6 ratskeppers so far, with more to respond.

My experience with dinners like this is if you have nine at a table of ten you get an extra meal that has my name on it.

Eight doesn't work, the wait staff will notice two empty seats and not put meals down. But one they won't worry about so I bags it if it happens. Getting in early.

Meanwhile, I'm in a bit of a quandary - of COURSE I want to sit with forumites, but I also want to sit with Mod Central (if they have their own table) PLUS I have some Twitter pals whom I'd also love to sit with.

According to a 2010 Newspoll Survey, 5% of Australians say they are vegetarians with 2% of them actually eating a vegetarian diet. It is just interesting to see the above stats show about 10% are vego, which seems to reflect itself across wider stats even more ;)

Odd how the more outspoken atheist community has a higher percentage on the whole of vegetarians that the Australian average .. wonder what the reason is?
