View Full Version : Got my Tix, now what thread

Woot! :D Got tix to CAC2012 plus two tickets for Saturday night's dinner.
Girlfriend is coming with me to Melbourne but not attending convention.

(the "now it's official" thread is getting way too big)

I am having all sorts of trouble trying to buy tickets!
The 1300 # is perpetually engaged, and the web site tells me that "COUPON USAGE LIMIT REACHED" when I have yet to complete a single purchase!

How did you manage to buy your tickets?

djarm67
18th August 2011, 07:25 AM
Please be patient. Davo is currently working on the coupon issue.

OzAtheist
18th August 2011, 07:27 AM
Seems like you aren't the only one, I just got three replies on twitter saying they also got "COUPON USAGE LIMIT REACHED" message.

Guess I was lucky.

Michael Kingsford Gray

Now the ticket site is saying "Your ticket reservation has expired."

WTF?

I finally got past the coupon error, got to the final checkout page...You never told me I needed PayPal!
I have 2 credit cards, but I can't use either of them to make a payment because of a long issue I've had with PayPal. Both credit card numbers are blocked by them. I've tried calling the 1300 number in the email but it's still busy.
I have less than 20 seconds until my tickets are released back into the general pool.

If you'd said I needed to use PayPal I would have organised for a friend to make the payment for me.

Michael Kingsford Gray
18th August 2011, 07:39 AM
Success! :)
But I do agree that the Paypal only restriction should be clearly presented UP FRONT, before any of the fannying about.
ORGANISERS: Please Note!

Under the paypal thingy you can use your credit card.

I left a message with the ticketing company asking them to call me back urgently.

I feel like every minute that passes my seats are being pushed further and further backwards. Also, they should be waiving the phone purchase fee for me, seeing as it's not my fault. If I'd seen a PayPal logo on the ticketing page I could have transferred the money to my work's account and paid that way.

I can't use my credit cards with PayPal, they are blocked. I can't pay with PayPal using them because they are linked to an account. I've been trying to get them unblocked for 3 years. I can't pay with PayPal. I can't make it any clearer than that.

Michael Kingsford Gray
18th August 2011, 07:46 AM
But if one does not already have a Paypal account, and seeks to establish one, the transaction will expire before your new account is approved!
Been there, done that.
Besides, if it is presented from the outset, one has the time to establish a paypal account before commencing said transaction.

1] Wait 8 weeks
2] www.eBay.com.au
3] Profit! :p

I feel like every minute that passes my seats are being pushed further and further backwards.
AFAIK seating is not allocated, except that Gold Pass members get to sit closer to the stage. Don't freak, even the back row seats are good (and handily close to the exits).

I called the 1300 number 18 times, finally got through, explained the situation and she was able to put through an order for me. The phone order cost me $4 extra, but I don't care anymore, I have my tickets! Money has come out of my account and receipt number has been emailed to me.

Now...I was supposed to leave for work 30 minutes ago and I'm not even dressed yet :P

Good to see a clause missing from the Terms and Conditions. Nothing about an "act of god", hardly surprised, but I had to check when I saw them pop up.

Got my ticket, now just need to sort out accommodation and getting there. Hmm... can I cycle to Melbourne?

Now that is a good deal! ;)

Also agree about the seating. Doesn't matter where you sit (and I also sat in different areas last year), it's all good.

Even if you've partied a little too heartily on the Friday night and struggled to make it to the first session on Saturday morning (8.30 am IIRC for Phillip Adams?), sneaking in and sitting in the back row is still great - can see and hear everything. Um...so I've heard... :o

Snippet from the data we are dealing with :

I once designed a built a workflow for the company to managed a sales weekend away, and I deliberately put in a select any dietary requirements option, rather than a free text field. The other provided you with an email address to send them to.

That way we avoided all of the silly responses that you can possibly get in those fields.

Mind you, that was a good response, and I actually paid that one. But I've seen plenty of dickhead ones as well.

Will be buying tickets tonight/tomorrow. To get dinner tickets or to not get dinner tickets is the question... We didn't know about the GAC until about 2 weeks ago, so we have not much money saved up, trying to weigh up whether it is worth putting it on the credit card or not...

Might I add though we are also looking to buy Think Inc tickets tonight/tomorrow too as I only found out about that two days ago, deGrasse is one of my favourite speakers, adn my hubby as a little man crush on him. So I think the real question is, to go to Think Inc or by dinner tickets...

Think we have decided to get the regular pass for GAC and also go to Think Inc, and see how many shifts the hubby can get in the next two weeks to top up the account quickly, if he can, dinner tickets for us as well =D If not, will try my luck with the dinner tickets when we can afford them.

So glad I can convince him to do what I want to sometimes.

Thanks guys, didn't feel comfortable leaving the decision to buy or not to buy the dinner tickets till later so I was going with not buying, but I think we will wait and see if we can get them before they go on sale to the general public. Once in a lifetime oppurtunity should not be missed!!

This would be good if Christopher Hitchens makes it this time after his no show at the Think inc. is there any news on how his doing?
