View Full Version : Vision Radio promoting 'factual' evidence supporting 'biblical' family values

Hi. [possibly in the wrong thread: sorry mods for giving you extra work]

I was listening to Vision Radio Network the other day and the presenter was expounding that they (some Christian family group) had the 'evidence' on their side to show 'biblical families' are the most effective means of raising children. Didn't say what the evidence was (just alluded to it being scientific/statistical etc), but they were currently in the process of repackaging it into easy to quote snippets. I had come in only a few paragraphs before the end of the segment (advert?) and wasn't in a position to record the details of the presentation or group. I have been looking for it ever since but found nothing. I have contacted Vision Radio this weekend but they probably haven't had a chance to reply.

I said: Hi,

I was recently passing your radio station channel, and I heard a presenter say something similar to: they had statistics and evidence demonstrating that same sex parental care was not as effective as a biblical marriage. As I was driving there was no chance to write down where I might find such info. I have only heard the exact opposite and so have not had a chance to consider all sides of the issue.

I would be very grateful if you could direct me to where I can find such information.

Thank you.

As I have come from a family that is stridently promoting 'family values' I have often heard the claim that 'biblical marriages' are most effective in raising children but the only evidence was the 'good' families in our church. Most often we're told that it is "obvious to anyone with a brain".

As a layperson I've never really been able to expound any of the studies I've come across --- and have since lost --- but they have all seemed to suggest to me that the genders of the both parents are irrelevant to the effective care of the child.

Has anyone ever come across a 'study' to the contrary? And what was the rebuttal? (Assuming that the study wasn't just bible verses... ;))

Hehe...

Even when I was a christian, on hearing a rant about how homosexuals were undermining marriage if we should be allowing polygamy. Incest is a bit far.

It's a comedy video, but it has some nice links to bible passages about marriage. I don't know why they carry on as if marriage is important to god. It's all about getting sons. It not as if there is any marriage in heaven.

Matthew 22:30 (King James Version)

30For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

Oh good grief.
You have to wonder what kind of "family values" are looked on with such favour when their source material advocates killing disobedient children (Deuteronomy 21).

Between attempted murder (Abraham), incest (Lot) and the random killing of huge numbers of children (the first-born of Egypt) - just to name a few examples - you really have to wonder if these idiots touting it as "family-friendly" have read their own fucking scriptures.

@The Irreverent Mr Black: Yeah, I've been reading that :) but I haven't noticed in it links to studies supporting either proposition: parental genders are irrelevant to good parenting or the effectiveness of "biblical" marriages.

I am (now) aware that a large portion of what is held up by various conservatives as 'good marriage/family' is just not talking about certain "issues". And the bible as a source is abominable. I'm more interested in the current batch of studies being held up by religious groups as their 'evidence'.

edit: Sorry, mixed MR TIMB's tread up with another. :o
