Voluntary Euthanasia

Author:

The world is being very dishonestly mislead into thinking that the subject of Voluntary Euthanasia is full of controversy and is in need of endless debate. Those directly responsible for this unfortunate state of affairs are a small collection of vociferous religious people, hell-bent on keeping control over life and death, no-matter what the cost.

The loudness of their "arguments" and not the opposing reasoning are absorbed by politicians and medical associations who themselves are afflicted by the thought stopping religious gene.

Sexual abuse of children occurs in all societies, irrespective of culture, religion or race. What varies is the way different societies deal with the problem. In societies where sexuality is suppressed, there is a culture of denial, silence or blaming the victim. The world population is now six billion and increasing at the rate of approximately 220,000 people every day. It took 100,000 years for the human population to reach two billion. In a single lifetime, that number has risen from two to six billion. The biblical adage "populate or perish" is a threat to every form of life on the planet.

Not Snails and Whales: Religion and the Environment

Author:
S Smith

In prehistoric times humans lived by hunting and gathering. Their lives were governed by strict taboos that dictated which animals were to be hunted and when. Religion involved the natural forces and the earth was honoured as the mother and nurturer of all life. Prehistoric humans did not own the land but belonged to the land just as the animals they hunted.

Invasion

Author:
Keith S Cornish

According to the Oxford Dictionary this word refers to the entry of a hostile army into another country.

Surely the meaning could be extended much further to "encroachment of any kind" such as 'the peaceful invasion of a country by an organisation, a business" or even "invasion of personal privacy or space".

Censorship

Author:
David Nicholls

It has always been that Tyrants, Monarchs and religions have censored materials and people they have disagreement with. Throughout history though, censorship has consistently been initiated under some other guise, supposedly for the benefit of those restricted from becoming acquainted with the said material.

Cries of 'save the children' one of the favourites, 'halt the moral decay' or accusations of 'blasphemy' accompany every book or people burning event and every assault on intellectual property that should be held in common.
